Setting a combine today, customer was using same settings as last year which were providing 0.25bu/ac loss with great capacity. This year same settings over 5bu/ac loss.
Few minor tweaks and back under 0.25bu/ac loss once again. Year to year conditions can make a huge difference, it more than pays to check and make sure.

Unless corn yield comes in 175 or less, beans 51.5 or less bulls have nothing, zero, nada, zip after yesterday for next couple months without a major catalyst event or another worthless USDA report. Now we can be optimistic and post crop damage pics and say "crop isn't there" and all may be true, market and funds do not care about you or you're farm, they only care about their performance and what the market is telling them. Right now managed money is +300k long in corn, +235k long in bean, and wheat has been technically bearish. Crying wolf don't matter to the funds, they do not care. Flood corn fields, black beans, they do not care. Prove to them, we have serious issues and the market can perform back above key moving averages and then and only then will they pay attention now. Most of them are underwater, risk managed is now key for them. 20-30c rallies will only be selling opportunities without that catalyst now. It will be viewed as a dead cat bounce. This is where we are.

China keeps approving more rounds of urea exports, and that has the market bearish!
If my count is right and they follow thru, their exports for 2026 may be nearing double their normal annual rate. Even better, most of those exports are coming 2nd half of the calendar.

Generally speaking, kernel damage from mold, sprouting and/or discoloration due to excessive rain is a covered peril. Kernel damage discounts are in the Special Provisions of the AIB:
Soybeans 8.01%-35%
Corn 10.01%-35%
Samples can be taken from a bin to determine this damage. If you think you have damage, take a sample to your elevator for testing, and if confirmed, turn in a loss.
All harvest claims must be turned in within 15 days of harvest to be considered timely.
Thx for the prayers — Turns out cutting out chunks of yer liver is no joke, man.
Good news, bad news, and next steps…
Good: big liver surgery last week successfully cleared out a bunch o cancer. (Pretty darn great — considering 9 mons ago, when told I had 3-4 months to live, surgery wasn't even an option.)
Bad: Tests on the tumors show they were more advanced than we thought — meaning always-mutating tumors have developed some resistance tricks to our former treatment protocol.
Bummer but that's life, and was eventually expected.
Next:
We're gunna change up treatment to carpet-bomb-chemo as much of the rest of the cancer as we can for a bit.
Send chemo tips -- do NOT send more Nickelback promotional materials (am painfully aware they’ll be performing at the Hondo Rodeo Fest in Febr).
Grateful to God for this extra time — both time w/ fam and time to fight. Can't say enough good things about…

College football feels dead inside because it veered off the Widespread Panic / Allman Brothers cultural spectrum. It went from being big-hearted and brash to being completely Morgan Wallen-ified. It needs less WWE and a little more Billy Strings in its soul to find itself again.
