As the Royal Navy keeps shrinking, the British government never seems to be concerned about how to fill the gap in escorts until all of the new frigates are built, which at this glacial rate (including their sales to Norway) could be in the 2040s. And if there is an inconvenient war before then who is expected to make up the difference and protect the critical North Atlantic Greenland/Iceland/UK gap? Why the U.S. Navy, that’s who. For the first time in history the Royal Navy will be unable to fulfill its duties of defending Britain, and that’s just wrong.
Concerning... "Industry insiders have told @NavyLookout that two more of the five remaining Type 23s will almost certainly have to be declared unseaworthy in the next few months [while delivery of the new Type 26 & Type 31 frigates seemingly continues to slip]."

I just signed a petition to stop the rollout of facial recognition surveillance in the UK. The Government and shops are scanning us without clear laws in place, using our faces like barcodes. Can you take 30 seconds to sign it too? you.38degrees.org.uk/petitio… via @38degrees

Norwegian researchers drove a Chinese EV into a mine to cut it off from the world. It still tried to call home. The project is called Project Lion Cage. Tor Indstøy, a Telenor security executive, monitored his own NIO ES8 SUV for years. About 90% of the connections he logged went to Chinese servers, even though NIO tells European customers their data is processed in Europe. The car carries cameras, microphones, location tracking and always-on modems. Most traffic is encrypted, so researchers could see where it went, not what it held. That is the gap. China's National Intelligence Law requires companies to assist state intelligence work. Nobody has proven spying. The question is who can be forced to hand over the feed. A separate test by Oslo transit operator Ruter found the Chinese Yutong bus could be reached by its maker through software updates, including battery and power systems. Yutong says it cannot control steering or brakes. Countries buying cheap Chinese EVs should expect to ask what else comes with the price. Is a lower sticker price worth putting a Chinese-controlled sensor on every street?
Norway 🇳🇴 put Chinese 🇨🇳 EVs in a mine so the cars could not “see” the outside world. 🚘 They still tried to call home. 🛜 Researchers found data moving with the car switched off. About 90% of the traffic from the car they tore down went to China. Same country now selling cheap EVs into Canada. 🇨🇦 Cameras. Mics. Always-on modems. PRC intelligence law. This is not a green-car debate. ♻️ It is a rolling sensor debate. 🛰️ Ottawa wants the cheap sticker price. Beijing wants the feed. #cdnpoli #CCP

Proud to be an RNLI volunteer. For more than 200 years, the #RNLI has saved lives at sea without judgement or preference. That hasn’t changed, and it won’t. Chief Executive Peter Sparkes puts it clearly here 👇
