xitter.cf/hw97karbine/status/211… On April 19, 1949, the British frigate HMS Amethyst was sailing up the Yangtze River to Nanjing to protect the British embassy. PLA (Mao's communist) artillery opened fire on the ship near Rose Island, killing or wounding a large portion of the crew—including the captain, Lieutenant Commander Bernard Skinner—and causing the ship to run aground on a mudbank.
British warships sent to assist or rescue the ship—including HMS Consort, HMS London, and HMS Black Swan—were beaten back by heavy PLA shellfire with further casualties. An RAF Sunderland flying boat also delivered a doctor and medical supplies under fire.
Lieutenant Commander John Kerans took command of the stranded HMS Amethyst. The ship was held under guard for three months while Kerans negotiated with Communist forces. On July 30–31, 1949, running low on supplies and facing a stalemate, Kerans ordered a covert night-time escape. HMS Amethyst slipped its anchor under cover of darkness, ran past shore batteries and river obstacles, and safely rejoined the British Far East Fleet. The incident cost the lives of 22 men on HMS Amethyst (with 31 wounded), plus additional casualties on some of the rescue ships.
xitter.cf/WarshipCam/status/2114… The Saudis buy expensive warships like they buy Rolex watches, as baubles to show that they have them. They don't actually use their Navy to do anything, like escort tankers in the Red Sea or help keep the Strait of Hormuz open, a waterway they need to conduct trade. And if their plan is to bypass the Strait by switching to overland pipelines, then they really don't need much of a navy. So, save the money on expensive and advanced warships and just buy yourselves some more Rolls Royce's you don't need.

From their lips to God’s ears. Hopefully this isn’t just wishful thinking but a serious proposal. The Royal Navy desperately needs the ships. What the article didn’t mention was they’re going to need a lot more personnel to crew and maintain these ships. Is the Government ready to expand the number of personnel in the Royal Navy too?

The Liberal Democrats have proposed ordering six additional Royal Navy frigates and expanding British shipbuilding capacity as part of a defence package aimed at responding to the threat from Russia. Click image for more.

In the Third Punic War between Rome and Carthage, Rome had decided to finally end the threat from Carthage once and for all. A country that attacked Rome repeatedly in the past was about to get the final lesson from Rome. So, the Romans laid siege to Carthage and then entered the city, totally destroyed it, executed all of the men, and sold the women and children into slavery. They then salted the earth so that nothing would ever grow in Carthage again. They ended the threat from Carthage once and for all. There is a lesson in there somewhere on how to deal with generational enemies.
xitter.cf/jointstaffpa/status/21… Maybe somebody could explain why the US Coast Guard is helping to train with Japan or the Philippines. Seems like the US Coast Guard should be defending the US coast, not Japan or the Philippines. That job should go to the US Navy. And if the Coast Guard ships from Japan and the Philippines want US Coast Guard training, they can always come here. The US Coast Guard has few ships as it is to do their domestic duties without having to send them all over the world on missions that have nothing to do with the US coastline.
xitter.cf/CIC_OS/status/21141908… When it comes to China, nothing is what it seems to be. They are plotting to take over the South China Sea. The only question is, when are they going to do it.
I hope both the Philippines and the United States are closely analyzing the route taken by the Chinese carrier strike group. Understanding its movements could provide valuable insights into potential transit routes and help both countries determine where to strategically position their offensive and defensive systems in the event of a future conflict.
Make no mistake, these deployments should not be dismissed as routine training exercises. They also provide China with valuable operational experience in waters critical to Philippine and regional security. The time to identify vulnerabilities, strengthen defenses, and prepare for potential threats is now, not when a crisis is already unfolding. In a future conflict, the difference between readiness and complacency could determine who controls these vital waterways.

Glad somebody took a picture of it. The three Royal Navy Batch 1 River-class offshore patrol vessels scheduled to be withdrawn from service in April 2028 are HMS Tyne, HMS Mersey, and HMS Severn. As the number of ships in the Royal Navy keep plummeting, the RN has decided to lose 3 OPVs which have been in almost constant use literally all over the world. Many of those missions should have been done by frigates, but since there are so few left the OPVs have been filling in for them, especially overseas. And now their numbers will be reduced by 3. Does the British government really want the Royal Navy to fail this badly?
25 Oct 1812 // 38-gun frigate HMS Macedonian was captured off Madeira by American 44-gun frigate USS United States after an action lasting three hours during which the British frigate was overwhelmed by the more powerful and longer-range guns carried by her opponent. [1/2]

"A French tech CEO says the country is witnessing the FAILURE OF SOCIALISM."
And who wants to sell that happy message to the people of France who have spent generations now in a socialist state expecting tons of free welfare benefits. Socialism never worked, as the Soviet Union, Cuba, and Venezuela all proved, and those are only a few examples. Socialism is collapsing in Europe because the bill has now come due and Europe doesn't have the money to pay for it anymore.

xitter.cf/liderfiscal/status/211… I think the UK is a tad more worried about this than we are. They are positively freaking out. They wouldn't be this worried about a major attack unless it was imminent. Given what just happened with the attempted terrorist plot at the RAF base in the UK, the threat is probably coming from Iran and if the war there heats up again Iran could launch a major cyber-attack on the UK. What the British people need to ask now is, if that happens how will the UK retaliate?

xitter.cf/bulkeley_john/status/2… Probably a massive cyber attack soon, and my guess is that it will be from Iran. Looks like Iran failed with its attack on the RAF base, so the next best thing to Iran is to punish all of the UK. Seriously, if they are this worried publicly, be prepared.

#OTD in 1944, the outnumbered destroyers, destroyer escorts, and escort carriers of Taffy 3 confronted a vastly more powerful Japanese force off Samar.
Ships including USS Johnston (DD-557), Hoel (DD-533), and Samuel B. Roberts (DE-413) fought against overwhelming odds to protect the American landing forces at Leyte.
Their courage remains one of the most remarkable stories in U.S. naval history.
