Very thoughtful article. Academic medicine needs to figure out how to right the ship. More talent are leaving academics for private or industry opportunities. The question to ask now is, “Does prestige of academics even matter to the new generation? opmed.doximity.com/articles/…

I think these is easy to say but there is context. Our IMGs are expected to have research or we rank them lower than we do American applicants. So we see very different CVs from IMGs vs Americans and judge them differently. I think you can be interested in research and in clinical care, but also desperately want to train in the USA. So for some, it is absolutely necessary. I know there is issues with bad research out there. But that is a journal issue more than a trainee issue. Maybe we have to start from scratch and rethink our assessments if we want to ban research...

Robotic surgical skills decay is real with decrease proficiency (3 months) and efficiency (6months). For those developing robotic training programs for residents/trainees, make sure to incorporate frequent simulation refreshers when not having frequent OR console time. This past week, I had a fantastic time visiting @CenterRuhs and @LLUMedSchool as an invited professor for Surgery Grand Rounds. I enjoyed discussing the nuances of modern surgical training and our research on the safe implementation of robotic surgical technologies.
I was especially energized by conversations with the talented and driven residents and faculty.
