Canadian Black Friday participation was at an all-time high this year even though consumers weren't particularly impressed with what they considered great bargains. My story where @DavidIanGray explains: #retail #costofliving #holidayshopping #BlackFriday biv.com/article/2023/12/cana…

Thx @JacquelineBNNB for exploring the Holiday Shopping story (thus far) with me on @BNNBloomberg Lets see if our mutual Boxing Day/Week prediction holds - more deal seeking shoppers amidst more reluctance from retailers to deep discount. The wild card? Who is overstocked?

Better late than never.... this is a non-partisan issue and O'Toole is doing good to call it out.
"Instead of leading—instead of debating our national purpose in this chamber—too many of us are often chasing algorithms down a sinkhole of diversion & division," warns former Conservative leader Erin O'Toole as he delivers his farewell address to the House of Commons. #cdnpoli

The question is... when does it drop to 4%?
Canada's food inflation rate has followed the U.S.'s over the last 5 years, for the most part.

Thanks @RetailInsider_ for including me in this one. Me? I think many of the American brands who have failed, have failed across the board, not just Canada. That said, there are some themes around success or lack of it here. This piece has a good range of points of view.

I heard rumours, but was still shocked...
Nordstrom says it is winding down its Canadian operations and closing all 13 of its stores in the country. Retail analyst David Ian Gray spoke to Anita Bathe about the impact Nodstrom’s closure will have on downtown Vancouver's retail landscape.

Sad state of parts of the downtown of Vancouver in 2022. A continuing ripple effect of the pandemic. Losing retail & foodservices reinforces the declining spiral of the community. Streetfront shops and food spots are critical to vibrant communities. @LOCObc @CFIBideas
Signs posted on Waves Coffee House on Main at Pender in #ChinatownYVR state “Due to the difficulty, our store has to close now.” #DTES #Vancouver
This was a tough call...Now mid-month, worth another look. The wild card: retailer inventories and their ability to hold off unloading through discounts or not...and so far, I am not see any deep sell offs. I think many shoppers are likewise waiting. (via @GlenKorstrom )
