I say this w/ love and pride, but it is funny to me that during the Chicana/o Movement we were like "hey, the Black Panthers are cool as fuck, why don't we just copy & paste" and made the Brown Berets

As a socialist, I don't think capitalism & democracy can truly coexist. I don't think the US in particular has ever had meaningful democracy. But even if you use the standard of liberal bourgeois democracy, I think you can only really say the US was a democracy from 1965 to 2010.

Incredible movie. Another Korean story about the harms of modern capitalism, but also a lot more than that. It follows 2 couples, a rich one & a struggling, working class one. A great character study that is partially about class, but also deeper human struggles. A must-see!

The US-backed right-wing narco-dictatorship in Ecuador has arrested presidential candidate Luisa González, from the leftist Correísta movement, on fabricated charges. This came after Ecuador's narco-regime banned the main left-wing opposition party. Ecuador is run by dictator Daniel Noboa, the son of the country's richest billionaire oligarch, and a close ally of Donald Trump. It has been admitted even by some mainstream Western media outlets that the Noboa family is deeply involved in cocaine trafficking, and works closely with organized crime networks.

I am deeply fascinated by the modern right's insistence that "the elite" is a category that does not actually include the ultra wealthy who dominate society and dictate many of its laws, and is instead made up of socialist teachers, anti-genocide protestors, and "woke" baristas.

Republican pollsters: Our Epstein coverup is killing us, need to do something to show we’re not defending pedophile rapists. JD Vance: These children are liars.
Vance: "And now the media and the Democrats in the state of Ohio are obsessed because, guess what? Vivek Ramaswamy had the audacity to run a TV commercial which calls it out like it is and calls Amy Acton a liar."

Court records and 1978 reports confirm Amy Acton's stepfather was arrested and charged with raping her at age 12; he fled Ohio before trial and was declared a fugitive. Her brother has corroborated the events. Vivek and Vance are siding with abusers over a victim. cincinnati.com/story/news/pol… forbes.com/sites/saradorn… mediaite.com/media/news/ram…

Vivek Ramaswamy’s ad is apparently unprecedented. It would be just awful to activate all the members of a politician’s family to attack them…as the Democrats did with every member of RFK’s family. youtube.com/watch?v=ww9fTNrW…

Acton's mother has been estranged from her daughter for 48 years because she sided with her husband (Acton's stepfather) when Acton reported that her stepfather had sexually assaulted her. That is different than RFK Jr.'s family, whose criticism of RFK Jr is focused on policy. dispatch.com/story/news/loc…

The world's richest oligarch is funding far-right politicians across the planet. These far-right movements are not "populist", by definition, when they are bankrolled by billionaire plutocrats.
