The drip of sad news from the #ParkFire continues. A message from Chico State President Steve Perez said the fire decimated most of the 7,835-acre Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve, including the old barn and old house just above Big Chico Creek.

Park Fire EVACUATION UPDATE
7.28.24 3:00 p.m.
The Butte County Sheriff Office is reducing a portion of the order in zone 312 A to an EVACUATION WARNING. This will include Cohasset Rd, Rock Creek Rd, and Sycamore Valley.
If a monster is coming and you need to draw a line in the sand, so to speak, do it with a bulldozer. What they cleared is a bunch of head-high, very flammable manzanita.

The Park Fire is now at 239,152 acres. Barely two days after it started, it’s already the 14th biggest fire in the history of our state.

Scanner traffic on the #ParkFire says pickups can now escape uphill from Cohasset after Sierra Pacific opened the gates on its logging roads. It's a long slow slog from Campbellville to Highway 32, but caravans are moving.
People from Cohasset couldn't escape down Cohasset Road so they apparently went up to radio towers and were stuck there until the logging road gates were opened.
Flashback to the #CampFire, but it's even worse getting off the Cohasset Ridge than the Paradise Ridge. There's one way in and one way out if the road is gated (unless you count north on Ponderosa Way, which I'll never try again).
