Latest #Biorxiv paper from our lab looks at how Trim7 interacts with its substrates to explain the diverse roles described for this E3 ligase. Following is a short thread summarising the findings (1) biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…… teapaw.org/JamesLab9/status/15446…

Linking optogenetic clustering to degradation and what it tells us about TRIM21 activation. This and much more in this work by @Deanclift1 Leo James @w_mcewan and many collaborators, including Filipa Santos and @MarianaOsswald @i3S_UPorto
In @NatureSMB we show how #TrimAway technology works! #TRIM21 molecules must cluster at the target to degrade; #SocialDistancing not good! Embracing this clustering mechanism allows selective degradation of disease proteins, optogenetic Trim-Away & more! nature.com/articles/s41594-0…

Team effort from Leo James' intracellular immunity lab @MRC_LMB, @Polarity_i3S and @w_mcewan's labs. Looking forward to clustering at the bar one day to celebrate all this hard work!

Have you seen us in the paper today? Well done to Mrs Walsh for all her hard work setting up Forest School. Y1 have 💕 their session, Y2 next half term 😁

I would recommend this 5 minute read for an introduction to the cytosolic antibody receptor and E3 ubiquiting ligase #TRIM21

#TrimAway. When we published this approach back in 2017, including binder-Fc fusion proteins, someone suggested the name ‘The Triminator’. Is TRIM21 the Arnold Schwarzenegger of proteins?

@DeanClift1 and Leo James lab define the mechanism that activates the E3 ligase TRIM21 by clustering. This makes TRIM21 a promising component for #optogenetic control of protein degradation by light-induced clustering. We are happy to have contributed! Filipa and @MarianaOsswald
TRIM21 uses antibodies to degrade invading pathogens, and any cellular protein #TrimAway, inside cells. Amazing! But how? Here is the fascinating mechanism plus new tools for targeted protein degradation! @MRC_LMB @Polarity_i3S @w_mcewan @MarianaOsswald biorxiv.org/cgi/content/shor…
