The new 🇩🇪 Giga Berlin production hall is more than twice as large as the old facility.

How can satellites help cut methane emissions from oil and gas operations? 🛰️ Between 2022 and 2023, the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (@OGCInews) expanded its Satellite Monitoring Campaign to Algeria, Kazakhstan and Egypt, carrying out over 530 high-resolution satellite observations across 18 sites to identify and better understand methane emissions. The campaign detected 308 methane plumes and identified 26 persistent emissions sources, with operators confirming 15 of them on the ground. By combining satellite data with local expertise and technical support, OGCI helped operators pinpoint previously unknown sources and identify opportunities for targeted mitigation. By October 2023, operators in Algeria and Kazakhstan had confirmed the mitigation of three large, persistent methane sources, with a combined average emissions rate of 3,200 kg of methane per hour. Satellite technology can help make methane emissions visible, but collaboration with local operators and on-site measurements is essential to turn data into action. The chance to keep global warming below 1.5°C with no overshoot is gone. But urgent action can still limit the overshoot and bring warming back to 1.5°C by 2100. Current policies, however, put the 🌎 on course for up to 2.8°C this century. New #EmissionsGap Report: unep.org/en/news-and-stories…

Most of our fields are anything but square, lots of little rows it is just normal hill ground fields. I've seen many bigger farmers use the GPS system when they do row crop in order to get those nice beautiful straight rows. When I was young and we used to row crop, I remember starting off finding a tree across the field and heading for it and then working myself out from there.I didn't do much of the planting at that stage. Now that we do hay crops, it's just circles from the outside all the way in. I wonder how many people are using the aftermarket cheaper GPS system in order to lay their fields out while cutting.

Meanwhile in Spanien…
Spain: The beach at Oliva, in La Safor, Valencia, is underwater this morning. Cars are submerged, homes are flooded and helicopters are rescuing people, with around 200 people trapped across the town. Around 2,000 people were evacuated from campsites overnight. The mayor says some homes can now only be reached by air.
