The future of Nigerian Software Engineers & Developers is bright 💻🇳🇬 But one thing I think we need to improve as an ecosystem is how we treat growth, collaboration, and competition. Too many developers move like it’s everybody for themselves. Meanwhile, the strongest tech ecosystems globally were built through communities, mentorship, shared knowledge, and collaboration. If you look at some of the biggest engineering ecosystems today, one thing is common: > Strong communities > Open-source culture > Engineers helping engineers > Knowledge sharing > Mentorship > Builders pushing each other forward Nigeria already has the talent. That part is obvious. We’re seeing more startups, innovation hubs, mentorship communities, hackathons, engineering spaces, and builders rising across the country. Organizations and communities focused on mentorship and collaboration are already helping thousands of young developers grow. (Thrive in Tech) But imagine how much further we’d go if more developers genuinely helped each other improve instead of hiding information or turning everything into unhealthy competition. If you notice another engineer struggling with: > System design > Backend architecture > Communication > Security > Frontend structure > DevOps > Open source > Problem solving …and you have resources that can help, share them. A simple GitHub repo, article, roadmap, video, or piece of advice can genuinely change someone’s career. Because the truth is: when one Nigerian engineer grows, it indirectly opens doors for others too. Global companies don’t just judge individuals they observe ecosystems, communities, engineering culture, communication, and delivery quality. And another thing people underestimate is mentorship. A lot of experienced developers today became great because somebody guided them, corrected them, or gave them clarity early. Even research and discussions around software engineering communities show collaboration and mentorship are major factors in engineering growth and innovation. (Disciplines In Nigeria) As engineers, we should normalize: > sharing opportunities > reviewing each other’s code > constructive feedback > teaching beginners > collaborating on projects > building together The future is bigger than individual wins. Nigeria has the potential to become one of the strongest engineering ecosystems globally if we focus more on collective growth instead of unnecessary division. We rise faster together

Today, I shipped a fully functional in-app notifications inbox. Today is Day 300 of 365 Days of Code. It brings community, learning, mentorship, and account updates into one place, with unread indicators, filters, and a notification count on the header bell. Opening a notification marks it as read and takes you directly to the relevant post, course, credential, or review. I also connected notifications to activities like follows, posts and replies, course progress, assessments, projects, coding challenges, achievements, mentorship, and reviewer decisions.

Starting today, I’ll be sharing quick reviews here of products that have earned a review on @FounderBattle 👀 What they do, who they’re for, and what stood out to me. It’s another way to help founders get more visibility alongside their battles and activity in the community. You’re putting the work into building. I want to help more people discover what you’ve made :)

I’m building Coddle Learn, an open-source interactive learning platform for developers. Day 296 of 365 Days of Code. I continued working on the Reviewers feature, fixing bugs and refining the functionality.
I'm currently building Coddle Learn, an open-source interactive learning platform for developers. Today is Day 295 of 365 Days of Code. Today, I worked on the Reviewers page, building a review system to help maintain the quality of community-contributed content. Reviewers can now review courses, projects, resources, and tools, then approve, decline, or flag submissions. Declined and flagged submissions require a note explaining what needs to be fixed, giving contributors clear feedback. I also implemented two publishing modes: automatic publishing, where submissions go live immediately, and manual review, where new submissions wait for approval. The review queue supports filtering by submission type, items awaiting review, flagged content, and recent decisions. Reviewers can preview submissions before making decisions, and access is restricted to authorized reviewers. On the creator side, Studio now notifies contributors when their submissions are awaiting review instead of publishing them immediately.

So basically, today PHP got two critical bugs that let anyone run code on your server without even logging in, which is bad, and then the details leaked before the patch was even out, which is worse, and it works on WordPress and MediaWiki and Magento and Joomla and Laravel, and Censys says like 1.5 million servers are running a version with no fix, so the NSA was like "take your system offline," and the FBI was like "take your system offline," and CISA and the UK and CERT-EU were all like "take your system offline," and then the Prime Minister of Japan, the actual Prime Minister, posted at 5:55 in the morning telling 48.8 million people to take their system offline, so everyone took their system offline, like the Dutch cybersecurity agency took its own website offline, and the Dutch parliament went offline, and the Port of Rotterdam went offline, and Finland and France and Denmark started pulling government sites, and Wikipedia went down, and Archive.org went down, and Asana and GOG and Something Awful went down, and the University of Vienna's webmail went down for some reason, and that's just PHP. Because GitLab also dropped a CVSS 10.0, which is the highest score they give out, for a bug that's been there since 2014, so that's every self-hosted GitLab for twelve years, and then LiteLLM 1.107.0 got hijacked and shipped a credential stealer and a remote access trojan in every single wheel and the Docker images, including latest, and you didn't even have to import it, just installing it was enough, and it's the second time this year, and then Railway paused every deployment on the entire platform because someone got into the environment variables, so now everyone has to rotate every secret they've ever stored there, and TiDB Cloud said someone was walking around inside with stolen credentials for basically a month and an extortion group says they took 10.6 terabytes, and Zeabur got breached for the second time in two months and is just shutting down, like the whole company, and Node.js patched remote code execution and a TLS bypass, and CISA says Plex is being actively exploited, and someone took over 300 Tor exit relays to steal SSH passwords, and SafePay ransomware has hit over 600 critical infrastructure orgs, and India's biggest bank filed a data loss incident, and Japan has been in an official state of emergency in cyberspace since October 9, which honestly explains the 5:55 AM post. Oh, and eMudhra, a certificate authority that's issued over 60 million certificates, whose entire job is proving websites are who they say they are, was supposed to be using private keys that are random numbers over a hundred digits long, and one of them was 4. Just 4. And the others were like 66 and 237. Anyway, it's Wednesday.

Just scrolling through Twitter and saw the PHP security news. Immediately went to install the latest version. 😅 My clients could have been cooked! 😂 Thanks for the heads-up! 🙏🏽🫡
URGENT. Klo web kamu pakai PHP, segera update hari ini. Ini zero-day. Cara nyerangnya bocor duluan sebelum patch keluar. NSA sampai bilang, klo belum bisa update, matiin sistemnya sekarang. 69% website di dunia jalan pakai PHP. Web pemerintah, bank, kampus, toko online, web kantor kamu. Upgrade sekarang Jangan tunggu besok. Jangan anggap remeh zero-day.

I’m still away on my honeymoon. Currently in Hong Kong. Today’s @Cap v0.6.1 launch was all scheduled. No stress. Hardly used my laptop, only in the evening for a moment if there was a support issue blocked earlier that day. @Cap is having another record month and this is the least amount of effort I’ve ever put in (been away all month!). The generational lock-in that is about to occur when I’m back home is going to be incredible.
