At Tesla, we even care about the chipmunks
98-Year-Old Man Buys His First Self-Driving Tesla Model Y And Is Blown Away “I've been driving it probably 2-3 months, and it's not made an error in its driving. In fact, the other day it stopped - a chipmunk was crossing the road, and there was no other traffic, and it did not run over the chipmunk … For somebody that's 98-years-old, this is a real treat.”

I decided to give out Hot Wheels/Matchbox cars for Halloween. As the (I'm guessing autistic) checkout guy at @Target slowly rang me up, he held one card and mentioned that it one of his all-time favorite cars. I tried to give it to him but he said he wasn't allowed to accept gifts. Of course I went straight to customer service to talk to a mgr. She said that he could accept it and walked over with me to let him know. I said "Happy Halloween!" and his face lit up with a huge smile. The other two cashiers were also smiling ear-to-ear. I think my ❤️ got the biggest benefit. When you see an opportunity to make someone's day, just do it. Esp when the only cost is a little time and $1.19. @MyTeslaMoonship @brewski77

BREAKING: NHTSA has filed a proposed rule to modernize FMVSS 108, the federal vehicle lighting standard, for autonomous vehicles that have no steering wheel or pedals. • Turn signal, hazard, and high-beam control requirements would apply only to vehicles with manual driving controls • Adds optional cyan "ADS marker lamps" so people can tell a car is driving itself • Publishes Oct 26, with a 30-day comment period Another federal barrier for vehicles like Cybercab is starting to come down. Pomp said it best. Give Elon a problem to solve and let the man cook.
It is obvious that @elonmusk is Chief Problem Solver of America. Give him whatever resources he needs and get out of his way. I explained on @AmericaNewsroom this morning.

What makes you say that? Did I miss something? I could have. What I am looking at that says Optimus is NEAR mass production: ♦️Tesla has entered Stealth mode precisely because the tech is too valuable to be shown and copied before mass production. Elon Musk has said that competitors copy Tesla’s demos. ♦️And the indications from China are that Tesla is finalizing mass production deals with China. So to Tesla’s supply chain secrecy companies say things like “the biggest company” and not Tesla by name, with Chinese analysts being more willing to be concrete in details. ♦️Tesla’s own earnings call have reaffirmed Optimus production targets. True. You will be able to ask the Roadster to perform any of the tricks shown autonomously, as it will be sentient. Also, we will have a wild looping track (crazier even than Hot Wheels) at our Texas HQ where you can test out your Roadster.

Need a new phone but not sure if or when you should buy a new one with the announcement of Starlink Mobile? Well, read on. It’s a bit complicated but here is the conclusion. SpaceX is assembling a mobile network from spectrum, not by buying carriers. It agreed to purchase about 65 MHz from EchoStar valued near $17–20 billion, aimed at 2 GHz capacity, with that deal expected to close around November 2027. On October 8, 2026 it also agreed to buy Grain Management’s nationwide 800 MHz portfolio, up to 14 MHz paired in the 817–824 and 862–869 MHz bands, and this is subject to FCC approval. The 800 MHz layer is for range and indoor reach. The good news is that most current phones already support it. The 2 GHz layer is for speed, but today’s phones do not support that band yet. On current handsets, higher speeds depend on more than a fast-tracked license. SpaceX still needs a terrestrial grid so the 800 MHz signal is strong indoors, and it needs to radiate any already-supported mid-band (parts of the EchoStar holdings) from those same sites. 14 MHz alone cannot match AT&T or Verizon, which often aggregate well over 100 MHz. Rooftop Starlink dishes to the rescue. They can backhaul small radios and, as Elon Musk has described, act as the small cells themselves, avoiding a full macro-tower build. Wi-Fi offload from a home Starlink terminal would also move heavy video off the narrow cellular channel. Rivaling AT&T and Verizon in cities requires the EchoStar spectrum in service, handsets with 2 GHz support (expected around 2027–2028), and dense mid-band radios only where traffic justifies them. Satellites cover dead zones but they do not fix indoor capacity. Timeline: FCC consent on the Grain licenses could land in early 2027 if unopposed, with a closed deal by mid-2027. A limited 800 MHz consumer offer is unlikely before late 2027 and more realistic in 2028. SpaceX has pointed to upgraded satellite mobile service at the end of 2027 or, more recently, the first half of 2028. Comparable urban streaming waits on the November 2027 EchoStar close and new phones. Summary: It may be about 1.5-2 years before Starlink Mobile is offered to the public en masse. By then, you may want a new phone anyway that can handle the 2GHz heavier capacity of Starlink. I hope that helps.
