Younger brother came into town for the holidays, we were talking about crypto yesterday.
Trying to figure out why it's been so weak, even with strong equity markets. He threw me a curveball.
"Crypto isn't that cool anymore."
Blew my mind. The kid is 22.
"Prediction markets are better, and stocks too because they don't get rugged 24/7".
I looked much deeper last night...and what I'm observing under the surface is not technical or fundamental.
It's cultural. A social shift. Attention has relocated.
Starts on youtube. Views are down across anything related to crypto.
A crypto youtuber with 139K subscribers said that his viewership had dropped more in the last 2 weeks than anything he's seen in 5 years.
Second point. Attention is shifting from the top. The biggest crypto influencers are publicly "losing interest" in crypto, and switching to stocks (sources attached).
Third point. Crypto has long been a free-spirited, lawless, young man's game.
But with legacy brokerages like Schwab/JPMorgan getting involved + gov't interest, is crypto losing the demographic that made it popular in the first place?
Potentially...as the perception's changed.
Fourth point. Optionality. Every vehicle is becoming more accessible. From $COIN adding stock trading, to $HOOD adding 0DTE options, to prediction markets as a whole...
Everything's right there...without the perceived risk of a rug-pull via the “lawless” crypto landscape that defined crypto’s appeal in the first place.
Question is...does real-world crypto utility generate enough demand to offset a sustained decline in retail participation?
All I'm saying is the divergence of the once highly correlated $BTC - $QQQ pair is highly suspect. And it's only getting wider.
Yes, you can argue some of these things happen in every crypto bear market, but there's new variables & moving parts now (optionality + legacy brokerages participation + gov't interest) that change the game.
Crypto seems to be in a transition phase...from a momentum asset to an infrastructure asset.
Fundamental transitions like this are usually not kind to price in the medium term.
Long term, I'm bullish on the crypto's utility and think it will be everywhere, but the real world utility/adoption (and subsequent growing pains...) is something I'm watching in 2026.

Do Kwon has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
It's been a long fight, but the moment is finally here.
In the months following the Terra collapse in May 2022, Do Kwon was living a life of luxury in Singapore, out in the open. He gave interviews, went to fancy restaurants, and spoke about building LUNA 2.0 so he could rinse retail one more time.
Up until September, he was chilling. He had destroyed lives. People had committed suicide. Life savings had been stolen. But nobody cared, and people who spoke out were called "conspiracy theorists". It was maddening, and extremely frustrating.
In these months - May, June, and July of 2022 - various insiders and whistleblowers from Terra and Jump came forward, allowing me to disclose a few key facts proving systemic fraud, including the facts that Chai and Mirror were faking transactions on-chain to dupe investors, and most importantly, that Jump secretly bailed UST out while taking a bribe, misleading retail investors and the market into thinking the UST algorithm "self-healed".
The work of whistleblowers and the collective voices of Terra victims allowed us to publish all of the facts years in advance. We were constantly dismissed as "FUD," "conspiracy," and "lies". Now, all this time later, all of these facts have been documented and decisively proven in court filings.
In this initial phase - when Do Kwon was living his best life with money stolen from victims - other whistleblowers and I had multiple calls with the SEC, FBI, and SDNY explaining exactly what went down in simple terms, with all of the receipts.
In October 2022, after these revelations came to light, Do Kwon's downfall began, and he went on the run from the law. He was captured in March 2023 and made his first appearance in a US courtroom in January 2025.
Early on, I didn't think this day would come.
But now I know it always would.
What's my point here?
Twitter is real life.
Crypto is full of rug pullers and scammers - many highly sophisticated and manipulative. Most get away with what they do. People like Zach manage to catch a couple big ones, but law enforcement doesn't have nearly enough resources to go after everyone, and most of the wrongdoings in this space get swept under the rug.
But if you are being wronged - harassed, tormented, scammed, rugged, whatever it may be - just know that there are decisive actions you can take to bring justice in this world.
With enough organisation, dedication, and grit, it is possible to move mountains and shift the world around you. It's possible to say things online and have effects happen in the real world. And it's possible to nudge the wheels of justice in the right direction even if you think you're a nobody.
I'm still a random guy from the UK with no real special ability or power. But simply by speaking my mind and trying my best - and stumbling upon the help of some wonderful people from this community - we were able to create some real tangible change in the world.
I guess what I'm trying to say is - keep posting, keep doing, keep fighting for what you believe to be truthful and good. Don't bow down in the face of evil, and don't give up. Even if you are small, you can be much more powerful than you know - you just have to keep going and have a bit of determination (because most people don't), and the universe will often shift itself around you to make way for the right path.
Thanks to everyone who follows my words and helped support all of us Terra victims and whistleblowers on this journey. I have a feeling this isn't the end of the road - there are new monsters on the horizon. But if we keep pushing and representing each other against evil - I think we'll figure it out in the end. ❤️

Well boys, think I figured out (part of) the scam, and it is a doozy. Strap in.
TLDR: Stream (xUSD) and Elixir (deUSD), and likely more, are recursively minting each other tokens in order to inflate there own TVL and create a ponzu the likes of which we haven't seen for awhile in crypto.
NOTE: In the name of readability and due to X restrictions all txn hashes and addresses will be posted in a follow up tweet for those that wish to follow along themselves.
We start our journey on mainnet, watching the flow of USDC funds that have just landed in the Stream xUSD wallet last night. 0x15
- First step is to transfer the USDC out to another Stream controlled address 0x33, in this case to the tune of $4.4m.
- 0x33 places a cow swap order to buy USDT, which is paid out to 0x25.
- 0x25 takes that USDT and uses it to mint the equivalent amount of deUSD from their on chain minter 0x69
- 0x25 then transfers the deUSD back to 0x33 which in turn transfers it back to the main Stream wallet 0x15.
- Stream then takes that deUSD and bridges to AVAX, World chain or any other L2 that has lending markets listing sdeUSD, uses it as collateral to borrow other stables such as USDT or AUSD, swaps to USDC and bridge back to mainnet.
This is repeated one or two more times with varying amounts and lending markets, but the end state is Stream mints deUSD, uses that as collateral to borrow stables and mints more. Yesterday they did 3 rounds to mint about 10m deUSD.
While degenerate yes, not inherently scammy.
Enter Part 2
Usually when leverage looping, the last txn is just to supply the last amount as collateral. But Stream has a special power, which is their wallet receive's all USDC used to mint their "stable" coin xUSD and boy do they use it.
So with the final USDC they borrowed they recursively mint their own xUSD coin. Yesterday using the same $1.9m USDC they minted about 14.5m xUSD as shown in the tweet below.
This means xUSD is not only not actually backed 1:1 but the protocol itself is the largest holder of the token. It currently controls over 60% of the xUSD in circulation, meaning if we assume all is recursively minted like this then each xUSD is backed by at most $0.40.
But for what purpose? Well this is where it gets fun.
The main thing to do with xUSD other than hold, is leverage loop it where listed on Euler, Morpho etc. But who would lend millions of stables against a token the protocol just minted out of thin air you ask? 🤔
Well none other than our friends at Elixir who happen to find themselves with an extra $10m newly acquired USDT. 🤯
- Step one is to transfer the $10m USDT to what their "Transparency Dashboard" labels "Elixir's sUSDS Multisig" (lol) 0x73
- Next 0x73 creates a Cow swap order to swap the USDT back to USDC and have it land in 0x1b
- 0x1b bridges the $10m USDC to Plume network and then transfers it to a Safe at 0xaF8
- The Elixir Safe then supplies the USDC directly to a Morpho market that lends against, you guessed it xUSD.
-This market is hidden from all available morpho UI's and Elixir is the only depositor. There is currently over $70m USDC supplied and >$65m borrowed.
- Shortly after each deposit Stream will then come along with its brand new xUSD it minted to itself, borrow the USDC, bridge back to mainnet and we find ourselves back at the start of the story.
Funny enough as I was writing this they seem to be kicking off another round starting with another minting of deUSD.
While I did not dive fully in yet I would assume most markets that Stream uses to borrow against deUSD are also funded in similar manners, potentially by other partner "stable coins" engaging in the same tactics.
It is hard to know for sure how much actual collateral is backing this full system but seems likely to be sub $0.10 per $1.
Though what's a bit of leverage when you can each advertise 10-15% TVL growth overnight, just look at this beautiful chart from the Elixir dashboard showing their TVL growing about $60m in just a few weeks. (that amount sounds familiar)
The exposure runs rampant through DeFi, not only just holding xUSD or deUSD but depositing into any market or curated vault that lends against them or the other Yield coins that also are at least in part backed by these.
Make sure you know where your yield is coming from.
Happy Farming.
Now that people seem to be paying attention to what's actually behind the yield coin meta, few more fun facts for you.
The Stream xUSD wallet holds 60% of the outstanding xUSD all of which is levered up.
While the comingling of funds between their products make it impossible to know how much is recursively minted with its own backing, this includes a $95m position on Plasma Euler.
As with most of these positions it would be impossible to actually liquidate given on chain liquidity. Of course they are using an upgradable proxy for the oracle, so need not worry about those things.
xUSD largest exposures are
- mHYPE (whose liquidity buffer appears to be empty)
- RLP whose transparency page numbers don't match the wallets and shows a negative $25m balance on Binance.
Other notable exposure is to other yield coins like rUSD, which about 30% of its backing is rUSD itself.
As well as deUSD, who has 30% of their backing in mF-ONE.
mF-ONE is mostly off chain but claims to have a $16m "liquidity buffer", which is actually 100% deposited to mTBILL.
mTBILL is missing about $15m but only has $100k "liquidity buffer" and the other $5m is in BUIDL.
In general basically every Midas Transparency page is wrong in some capacity (which is more than you can say for Stream who's still doesn't exist) and every single one you look at has some amount of funds not showing up in the wallets.
The daisy chain stretches on farther than you can imagine and with recursive self minting and lending fueling basically all of the "growth".
Though good news Midas provides "Independent Verifications and Attestations" which like the one below are 4 lines of arbitrary numbers followed by 120 blank pages.

Happy Farming.

Why USD0++'s Depeg was Imminent
I used to work on Morgan Stanley’s high-yield bond desk, so I’ve seen my fair share of distressed assets and quirky mechanisms. "High-yield" sounds fancy, but let’s call it what it is: trading the shittiest of shit bonds. Think defaults waiting to happen—the gutter trash of the credit world.
What’s happening with USD0++ feels like déjà vu. Let me clarify: I’m not saying it’s trash—it’s collateralized by very safe assets, but let's say there are definitely some high-yield elements at play, along with a whole lot of tranching.
As of writing, USD0++ is trading at $0.94, a 6% depeg from its supposed $1 peg on DEXes. Why? After the protocol's announcement of its “dual exit” option, hundreds of millions of USD0++ got dumped by DeFi traders, leaving its largest Curve pool wildly imbalanced.
What is USD0 / USD0++?
USD0 is a simple stablecoin. The real point of this entire game is to convert it to USD0++, the staked version. USD0++ is where the action happens because it earns you $USUAL tokens (we’ll get to those in a bit).
But here’s the kicker: Holding USD0++ locks you in for four years—a detail many DeFi farmers glossed over. In essence, USD0++ functions as a zero-coupon bond—you lock up your money and earn nothing until the end of the term.
If you expect 4% annually over four years, the fair value of USD0++ today should be around $0.855. This means you’d buy it at $0.855, hold it for four years, and redeem it at $1 for a risk-free 4% return.
Before today’s announcement, you could redeem USD0++ 1:1. Now, that’s all changing.
The Dual Exit Details for USD0++
Here’s how the new exit mechanisms work:
1. Conditional Exit: Redeem USD0++ at 1:1, but you forfeit part of your accrued yields. This “Early Unstaking” option launches next week - I'm guessing you'll need to burn $USUAL to exit.
2. Unconditional Exit: Redeem at a floor price, currently $0.87, which will gradually rise to $1 over four years. This option is for those who want to keep their upfront rewards.
For those still HODLing their USD0++
There's a trade-off:
1. Choose the speculative strategy by staking USD0 to USD0++ to farm USUAL tokens and chase those headline-grabbing 60% yields.
2. Choose the Base Interest Guarantee option by locking up USD0++ for four years to earn the “real” risk-free yield of 4% annually, payable only at the end.
But why lock up USD0++ for four years when you could buy liquid treasury-backed ETFs from BlackRock, exit anytime, with higher liquidity? DeFi users are farmers, and those shiny 60% yields are what they’re after. Option 1 was the only ‘real’ option—at least, until today’s announcement.
The key takeaway: USD0++ is now being recalibrated to reflect its true nature and value: a zero-coupon bond plus a $USUAL token emission mechanism. But there are more layers to this.
USUAL... USUALx... USUAL*
Right now, the protocol keeps all the revenue from treasury bills, while participants are left with what looks like an ever-emitting token.
There’s a fee-switch coming, though. Soon, 100% of the interest revenue from treasury bills will go to USUAL stakers, who will earn another token called USUALx (with a 10% fee for unstaking). It gets even more complicated: early investors receive a token called USUAL* (or USUAL Star), entitling them to 10% of all USUAL emissions and 33% of penalty fees.
Lots of Moving Pieces
Here’s how to read it:
1. USD0 Holders: surrendering your interest yield to use the stablecoin, effectively financing this game for the other counterparties—USD0++, USUAL holders, USUALx holders, and USUAL* holders.
2. USD0++ holders: surrendering your interest yield for 4 years, effectively financing this game by betting that $USUAL tokens emitted will be worth more than the interest yield.
3. USUAL / USUALx stakers: betting on the USUAL token to rise / capturing the interest yield surrendered by USD0 and USD0++ holders.
4. USUAL* holders: get 10% of all $USUAL emissions, as well as 33% of penalty fees, receiving a percentage of the value chain.

Welcome to Bear Town (?) 🐻
My primary focus for @tangent_xyz is two things:
1) Investing and working with founders long term on the venture side, and
2) Spotting inflection points on the liquid side to help founders weather them better
This thread is about the latter. Personal opinions; NFA
On Inflection Points
80% of returns for any liquid portfolio in a deeply cyclical market such as crypto can be driven by 1 or 2 beta calls on inflection points in the cycle. Asset selection will drive the remaining 20%.
Inflection points refer to points in the market where the prevailing trend changes from one direction to the other.
In January 2023, @tangent_xyz noticed the first inflection point. We deployed our capital after a year of sitting in cash + farming tradfi yields. This coincided with $BTC's spectacular run from $17K to $71K.
At the time, the market was credibly sidelined given the rumors around Grayscale, which was a good setup for the subsequent inflection point.
In mid-May 2024, @tangent_xyz identified another mini inflection point and liquidated most of its liquid market holdings (except for all venture positions which we take multi-year views on) to purchase $ETH. $ETH repriced from $2,800 to $3,975 in the following week.
We have since liquidated most of our $ETH holdings to adopt a more defensive stance on the market as a bigger inflection point seems to be emerging.
Bearish Heuristics
Over the past few weeks I have begun to notice some heuristics that flagged the pico-cycle top in 2021 and were instrumental in helping me derisk near the cycle top. I will outline these below.
1. Credible Reason to Stay Long
At inflection points, the market often provides credible reasons for participants to be on the wrong side, leading to forced selling / buying when the inflection occurs, which reinforces reflexivity to the down/upside.
We see this in June 2022, Jan 2023, and now. If the reasons are not obvious and credible, the positioning and setup would not be there.
The obvious setup that virtually every market participant is prepared for is the eventual approval of the ETF S-1 for $ETH. Obvious parallels can be drawn to $BTC ETF and its spectacular performance subsequently, which makes the setup even more credible.
On the other hand, even those are who skeptical $ETH will receive the same attention and uptake as $BTC - an asset which has a simply narrative (digital gold) and one which tradfi and mainstream retails had had a decade to warm up to - are forced to remain positioned.
For money managers with external investors (most crypto funds), being offside into an event such as the $ETH ETF is negative expected value, which reinforces the dynamic.
TL;DR - most market participants are forced to remain long into the $ETH ETF, which limits marginal buying and sets up potential forced selling when the going gets tough.
2. Despite Framework
One of my more reliable frameworks for inflection points is "despite".
If general market prices fail to move in a direction despite headlines that suggest the contrary should happen, it usually is a strong signal.
This past week we had one of the most bullish signals for the crypto industries with the SEC dropping its case against ConsenSys, alongside an imminent launch of the $ETH ETF.
Despite this, $ETH has drawn down 12% from local highs, with majority of altcoins down anywhere from 10-50% in the past week when I first expressed this view.
TL;DR - Price behavior during potent catalysts does not reflect behavior of a structurally bullish market where buyers are risk-on.
3. "Alt Coin Bull Market Hasn't Happened Yet"
An underlying assumption many have re: crypto markets is "alt season", a prolonged period of outperformance from non-BTC (and/or non-ETH) assets whereby wealth creation is easy and abundant.
To assess the scale of this - simply look at TOTAL3, the aggregate market cap of cryptoassets outside of $BTC and $ETH, which increased by 730% in 2021 to cycle peak. In the same time, $BTC increased ~200%.
Since Jan 2023, $BTC price has increased by ~300%, but TOTAL3 has increased by half of that - with a portion of the addition coming from new coins being created instead of being bought up.
This has led many to believe that the alt season has "not started", and a replay of 2021 would re-occur. While this is possible, it is objectively harder to justify material uptick in prices given the lack of commensurate innovation beyond points farming and meme coins.
Set against the lack of historical QE which propelled much of last cycle's innovations and speculation in DeFi, NFTs, P2E gaming and other novel trends, the prospect of holding out for a "throw a dart on the board and hope you print money" seems less appealing.
At the same time, stablecoin market cap growth also seems to begin to stagnate since the beginning of the recent bull run, signalling slowing crypto-native inflows.
In addition, markets tend to top at peak attention - not in silence. Offchain sentiment trackers and aggregate open interest suggest we are at highs for both.
TL;DR - Wealth creation has not happened in alt-coins to warrant trickle down and there are not enough novel trends to incentivize new inflows while leverage remains high relative to cycle historically.
4. Qualitative Observations
Large VC fund raises marked the pico top of last cycle. This is expected as allocators tend to be trend followers due to incentive design.
Similar to how discretionary money managers have misaligned incentives at inflection points, allocators face more punishment for making wrong contrarian calls than they get rewarded for making right ones.
As such historically LPs investing in crypto funds have been a reliable end-of-cycle heuristic, and I believe we are beginning to see this recently.
In addition, celebrity coins signal an increasingly frothy market, while those once hailed as Crypto Twitter's heroes are now castigated as a scapegoat for the pains of the market - all reliable signs of late cycle.
TL;DR - Qualitative signals I observed in late 2021 have reared their heads in alternate forms today.
So What Now?
There has been much fixation on crypto-native positioning: what whale/fund/influencer is long/short what, which I believe is mostly noise.
Crypto-native positioning is more relevant for alts, where liquidity and thinner and % of participant that is crypto-native is higher. For $BTC and $ETH, the consideration is more PvE in nature vs PvP, and my believe are these two are still flag-bearers for the market, especially given the decimation in TOTAL3.
So what's on the horizon for $BTC and $ETH? Besides $ETH ETF, we are likely more at the mercy of macro influence than crypto-idiosyncratic catalysts.
My default view is crypto does not see new highs until US election time earliest, and general price action continues in a predominant downtrend, which fits my definition of a crypto bear market (3m+ general downtrend, no new highs, shrinking volatility).
I am prepared for much longer of a period of gestation, but am also ready to be wrong. I suspect the two invalidation scenarios for my bearish bias would be:
1. If $BTC breaks up and hold above $73k materially, which would be a signal for risk-on sentiment to return given the asset class' reflexivity
2. Easing monetary environment allowing speculative capital to once again trickle into crypto
Finally, as with any frameworks there are many caveats. For instance, OI growth can be driven by cash-and-carry traders, and one could have easily cited the initial meme coin mania as a sign of excess, which would have led to a premature market top call. If there are any gaping errors I would appreciate if my followers can call it out.
I think it's helpful to maintain an optimistic outlook - $BTC and $ETH are entering public acceptance phase, which to me is the most important meta-game of crypto. Regulatory stances are softening, stablecoins continue to grow, and the application layer is finally emerging.
The 5+ year outlook for crypto is bright and I remain convinced the space is exactly what we need as a counter-balance to the centralizing forces of AI.
Zoom out and good luck!
Disclaimer: I am an investor but I am not YOUR investor. Do your own research, I may change my mind tomorrow etc. I don't care what you do with your money.
Here is my original tweet from last week:
xitter.cf/mrjasonchoi/status/180…
Replying to @0xlaiyuen
To clarify there are quite a few heuristics I see from 2021 pico top that are just starting to present themselves, but also with big caveats
Namely market has credible reason to remain long so most will (if markets rip and you are not long into ETH ETF your LPs pull), small signs of mainstream grift (celeb coins), large venture funds closing raises (LPs are usually late cycle participants), prices remain stagnant for 3 months, and cycle high OI, while stablecoin inflows began to stall. Question of who is the near term marginal buyer is less clear to me today
Caveats are OI are not biased long (could be basis), cycle vol likely dampened, if assume cycle plays out similar to before we haven’t had a large TOTAL3 wealth creation yet, plus favorable political climate plus potentially easing env on the horizon (big caveat)

As little as $80M in token incentives to lower NFT floors could wipe out the whole Ethereum NFT market cap ($4B)
Blur's token incentive is $100M at the current spot price
Machi nuked floors taking losses of $14M over the past four months, expecting he will make it back from $BLUR airdrop
You think your bags are dumping bc Azuki & Memeland f*cked up, and we're in a bear
While that's part of it
You didn't realize the market is slowly being boiled alive by a mechanism that's grinding floors across the market down 1% per day or more
How?
In the current bear environment, the flywheel of Blur's bid incentive allows mercenary capital to destroy a project's floor without any real holders selling, even as holder counts increase
Projects with 2x lending points, close to or less than 3 ETH floor like Otherdeeds, Pudgy Penguins, Miladys, Beanz, & CloneX, are in the most danger, but no one is safe
Because farmers ONLY earn points by having bids active, they're not incentivized to actually *buy* the NFTs they bid on
They NEED to dump as soon as any bids get accepted, so they can get ETH and replace the bids to earn max points
The funny thing is, there's two types of farmers:
Whales & chumps
For whales, the optimal strategy once a bid is accepted is to get a loan on the NFT to top up and place lower bids than before
For chumps, they don't have enough liquidity for a loan to top them up enough, so best move is to list the items on or around what they paid, lowering the floor
Bots and other players adjust to these moves in real time, lower floor prices and other bids
Floors get lower -> bids get lower -> floors get lower -> bids get lower -> DEATH SPIRAL
Dumpers dump into dumpers
Merry go round and round
Hoping to make a lot more on $100M in airdrop incentives
THE THING IS
NFT market caps are fragile
$1 in incentive to lower the floor = $10-$50 lower market cap
Blur knows the marketplace with the lowest floors wins
So they put a $100M+ token incentive behind it to grab maximum market share
This is NOT EVEN COUNTING
The impact on normal holders who don't know what's going on
The average Joe's watching the value of their assets slowly wither away
Going to Blur and seeing RED from all the sells
Mistaking farming for more holders selling
Losing faith and exiting the market

Buy them out
