Your mileage may vary on how long you can listen to me talk. I get it. But... Granny Weatherwax vs vampires! Pratchett vs fascism! Verence vs Big Aggie's brose! Mark vs editing this into shape!
Carpe Jugulum is dark, weird, creepy and hilarious. Hope we did it justice.

On paper, this looks like a major upgrade on having me as a guest, but I didn't hear Tchaikovsky make a single Jeffery de Visscher reference, so who wins really?
Jokes aside, it's a great episode that I know Mark was trying to put together for a while, so give it a listen.
The award winning Adrian Tchaikovsky (Children of Time, Dogs of War) provides his thoughts and perspective as we discuss the 19th Discworld novel, Feet of Clay.
We talk about Golems, class, puppeteering the reader, the Vetinari-Vimes dynamic and Robocop.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say this is the first Discworld podcast to mention Jeffrey de Visscher.

Interesting Times - Terry Pratchett
You'll be able to hear my thoughts on this one on an upcoming episode of @DiscWorldOrder

A really interesting chat, even if I have a different take on Soul Music. What sticks with me is how Pratchett describes the feeling of hearing and making music, the euphoria of a truly great gig, better than anyone - but this gets to the heart of some issues I readily forgave.
It's new episode time!
Dermot Byrne returns to talk about the 16th Discworld novel, Soul Music.

Today marks the 10th anniversary of Terry Pratchett's final masterpiece, 'The Shepherd's Crown.' To honour this milestone, we're sharing these poignant reflections from Rob Wilkins.
""
It’s been ten years since the publication of The Shepherd’s Crown, the last book Terry Pratchett completed before he died. Once the spine on this one was cracked, there were no more new Pratchetts to look forward to, and I know a lot of Discworld readers who were, understandably, with that sad reality in mind, reluctant to finish - or even start - this one because it felt like the final closing of a door.
But I also know that Terry wanted his books to be read and enjoyed far more than he wanted them kept on a shelf. And as time passes it becomes ever more apparent how much the Discworld books reward re-visiting, perpetually revealing something new, literary gems Terry had hidden away for a second or third, or even more, re-read. Every Pratchett is to some degree an unread Pratchett, including the ones you’ve already enjoyed and including The Shepherd’s Crown.
So the greatest way to honour Terry’s legacy is to pull that book you’ve been saving off the shelf, make a nice cup of tea and settle down to read the story he wrote for you. Enjoy.

So, one of my local antiques centres has a lot of second-hand books. It turns out that this includes almost an entire Discworld collection.
I helped myself to 5 paperbacks just so that I can have every Josh Kirby cover for my collection to make it feel a bit more uniform.

Lords and Ladies is a book I love with my soul. It's hard to summarise why it works so well, but this episode dives into everything from Pratchett's riff on Tolkien's Elves to the many lives of Granny Weatherwax and some very, very silly humour. Loved it.
Episode 13 of Discworld Order is out now.
Dermot Byrne joins Mark to talk about Lords and Ladies,
Magrat's growth arc, Pratchett's best fight scenes to date, parallels & pebbles.
