Questioned about whether Leclerc fights more against his teammate than against other drivers:
Fred: “No, if you look at what Charles did in the first sector in Austin, everyone said it was magical, and the line between the two is a fine one, but he didn’t make contact with the other car
Of course, we have two experienced and competitive drivers. For four or five races in a row now, we have been at the top of the standings, scoring the most points since Monza or Madrid. This obviously creates a kind of escalation, with everyone wanting to win races. I think the downside of the situation is probably that every weekend we have two competitive drivers starting alongside each other. But I also think that if we are currently second in the standings, it is partly because we have two drivers who are very, very closely matched.
The guidelines remain the same. I think they may have built up a bit of frustration because they start side by side every weekend, and situations tend to accumulate. But at the end of the day, the guidelines remain the same: they have to respect each other. They are two competitors with a fighting spirit. They must respect one another, but above all, they must respect the brand, the team, the people working at the factory and those working at the track. I think we are putting a lot of effort into this, and the message has been clear. We will continue to be clear.
The team has to come first. In this situation, we collectively failed because we were running first and second, and in the end, we didn’t win the race. The conclusion of last night’s meeting was clear: it was a clear reminder that the team comes first, for the brand, for the employees and for the fans. We must keep that firmly in mind.”
