Marx would be making fun of all of us for seeing Trump as a world-historical individual leader instead of what he really is, a grotesque mediocrity whose rise to dictatorial power is a symptom of structural factors that we have let fester for decades while we pursued profits.

I think you fix this by firing Lewis, publishing the spiked piece, and building a firewall between Bezos and editorial that the guild signs off on; kind of easy and reasonable when you think about it

Before Hoover passed the Smoot-Hawley tariffs that fueled the Great Depression, 1000 economists petitioned him to veto the bill.

1. Too often, businesses make people jump through endless hoops just to cancel a subscription.
Today @FTC finalized a rule requiring that businesses make it as easy to cancel a subscription as it is to sign up for one.

I've quoted this passage from Trump -- where he states his intent to cause riots and US economic collapse -- so many times. He flat-out announced it. In my new book HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT I quote my own 2016 essay warning what he would do... hidinginplainsightbook.com

Governments that can't exercise their sovereign power to tax the wealthy end up taxing the poor, eroding their legitimacy and hence their power. Taxing the rich - a wildly popular move - will make governments *more* powerful, not less.

For the inevitable question: "How do I make sure my clothes were made ethically?" This is very difficult to answer in a thread. My simplest answer is that we should elect pro-worker politicians, fight for pro-labor laws, and empower unions so workers can advocate for themselves.

If I was Lego, I would release a special set of Jimmy Carter building a house for Habitat for Humanity and raise the age to 100 just for that set. All profits go to Habitat for Humanity. Total missed opportunity.

Reminder: in 2020, Iran fired ballistic missiles at American troops in Iraq.
110 were injured, which Trump called “headaches.”

I need to hustle extra hard until he finds a new job. If you’re an editor and have ever wanted to commission me to write something, now is a GREAT time to get in touch! kimkellywrites@gmail

Also Toforest Johnson, on Alabama's death row for 26 years despite solid alibi. No evidence other than a single earwitness paid in secret. Like in Marcellus Williams case, the prosecutor who sent Toforest to death row is advocating for a new trial, but the AG and Gov ignore him.

It's pretty simple - whenever you encounter the claim "they didn't think like that back then," stop and ask who you mean by "they".
Odds are, what you assume to be historical values - how 'they' thought 'back then' - replicate how *powerful* people thought. You're taking a side.

Time and again, I find myself thinking about radium suppositories: specifically, I get to thinking about the day that the consensus shifted from "radium suppositories are great" to "stop putting radioisotopes up your ass."

ALT A demonic figure cropped from the 'Hell' section of Hieronymus Bosch's 'Garden of Earthly Delights.' She is on all fours, looking over her shoulder. Her entire rectum has been removed, revealing smaller, industrious demonic figures at work inside her guts. Her open rectum has been limned in radioactive acid-green light. Atop her flat hat is an open box of radium suppositories, lid open to reveal (entirely inadequate) health warnings. The background is a dark, abstract damask wallpaper pattern. Again, I’m gonna keep pointing this out. More and more I grow resentful of crime data (eg theft stats broken down by race) because stuff like this isn’t included. Wage theft isn’t included. Crime committed by corporations does greater harm but it’s always sanitized.
