Let’s get it on the record now. If there’s a sixty game lockout in ‘27 but your favorite team wins the World Series… will the World Series count? We say yes! Of course! If you say no, please leave the name of your team in the comments.

On this day in #Dodgers history: October 30, 2024 Down 5-0 to the Yankees in Game 5, the Dodgers stormed back to win 7-6 and capture their 8th World Series title. It remains the largest comeback EVER in a World Series-clinching victory.

After 20+ years behind the mic, I'll say it plainly: radio is still the most direct line from a team to its fans. It's in the car, on the job site, on the tractor. No paywall, no login, just a voice painting the picture. Baseball was built for that, and it still is. The game in its purest form.

I cried at his reaction. I truly am very happy for Brewers fans. I also want to say that the Dodgers have these fans too. Why so much hate?

MLB doesn’t need a salary cap. It needs less owner protectionism. The sport already has revenue sharing, a luxury tax that acts as a soft cap, an international draft, and the most extensive farm system in pro sports. Small-market teams regularly make the playoffs and win titles when they’re well-run. The market is working. See tonight for some evidence of that! A hard salary cap doesn’t create parity. It creates a ceiling on player pay while owners keep more of the pie. Baseball’s uniqueness is the point. No hard cap has produced both dynasties and underdogs. Forcing one now would just lock in today’s economics in the owners’ favor and call it “fairness.” Let the teams compete. Let the players get paid. The sport is fine. Watch the game tonight for the proof!

Today in 1981, the Dodgers win the WS as they beat the Yankees 9-2 in Game 6. Pedro Guerrero drives in 5 runs and earns series co-MVP honors with Ron Cey and Steve Yeager. It is the 5th title for the Dodgers and 3rd of 4 WS victories against NY (1955, 1963, 1981, and 2024).

Doc Severinsen asked Johnny Carson on air if he was helping "Mrs. Carson" with the Thanksgiving turkey. There was no Mrs. Carson. Doc led the Tonight Show band for 25 years. Carson was married four times, and all of it played out in public. When the question landed, Carson didn't dodge it. He corrected his friend, said he'd forgotten about that, and turned the divorce into the joke. Oyster stuffing versus bread stuffing. He lost that argument, and she got a lot more than the stuffing. Doc fired back that after so many years he sometimes forgot which wife they were on for which Thanksgiving. The audience applauded. Only a friend of 25 years can ask that question on national TV. And only a man who has made peace with it can answer it like that. Watch the clip. A cruel question, or the warmest thing two friends can do on camera?

One year ago today, I got to see Clayton Kershaw pitch for the final time in his MLB career and Freddie Freeman walk it off in 18. Greatest game of my life. #WorldSeries

This #Brewers run has made one thing clear. The idea that the #Dodgers were "ruining baseball" was always a very unintelligent narrative.

Today in 2024, Freddie Freeman hits the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history as the Dodgers defeat the Yankees 6-3 in Game 1. It is the first of 4 homers Freeman hits in the series to earn MVP honors as LA will go on to win the 8th championship in franchise history.

If Vin Scully provided the voice for the first half-century of MLB in Southern California, Ross provided the words. Farewell to a friend, mentor and legend.
If there was a Mount Rushmore of ball writers, Ross Newhan would be on it. He was a giant in the biz, a Hall-of-Famer who spent much of his 43-year career covering @MLB for the LA Times. He was a mentor to myself and so many others, a friend to all. Ross died today at 89. RIP💔

We send our deepest condolences to the family, friends and readers of longtime distinguished @latimes baseball writer Ross Newhan, who passed away at 89. Ross was a true gentleman, a highly respected voice in his 43-year career, and a baseball Dad to former Major Leaguer David Newhan. He will be missed.
