Details of what’s coming in Burnham’s 10-year plan in our read this weekend :: Current draft is dozens of pages and due to be published in mid-December :: Promises grouped into three: “Growing up”, “getting on” and “growing old” :: Childhood, life opportunities, AI, pensions, care services all addressed :: Clearest answer yet on what “public control” of utilities means is in there :: Each policy area will have layered promises for now, soon, long term :: Eg energy. 2026 VAT off, 2027 gas standing charges go, 2028 electricity… :: A big chunk is on “out of control” arms-length bodies and regulators :: Will be relentlessly domestic in focus - attempts to keep out foreign policy stuff :: A tiny number of trusted civil servants are working on the plan, secrecy tight :: Doc will tell Treasury what’s not a priority ie can be cut in spending review Of course 6 weeks of drafting to come so things may change, that’s current status Full unpacking here, with lots of tidbits on the current Whitehall spending rows: thetimes.com/article/d341fdf…

Harry & Meghan are not news. No-one really cares what they have to say, nor what they do. They're self-serving and lack any credibility. Stop giving them puff pieces in the news (at least, without pushback/fact-checking on their lies). #harryandmeghan #harry #MeghaninNottinghan

A long shot...Last Wednesday, I left a small grey hardshell suitcase on a train from London St Pancras to Cambridge between 5-6pm The thing in it I'm most upset about losing is a five-year journal in which I've recorded moments with my daughter (now 7) that have made me laugh or smile, and how she's changed. I like to read them back to her so she knows how precious she is. Nothing has turned up through the train companies' lost property systems yet, and I know that may take a while, but I don't want to leave a stone unturned. Any bright ideas? Know this is a long shot. @TLRailUK @GNRailUK

Just saw the PCS demands on Civil Service pay and call for a 4-day working week. Lacks credibility, harms productivity at a time when it needs to be vastly improved and is totally against the core principles of public service. #StraightReject #CivilServices #PCS #4DayWeek #SayNo

BREAKING: Andy Burnham says he is going to "rip the plaster off" to fix broken social care system. New system will be universal, free at the point of use, and funded by everybody, he says, and Labour will fight next general election on delivering it. PM says annual cost is "not as high" as the £18bn a year that has been suggested - and that he will take his time to work out how it will be paid for. "The challenge in public finances is real so it has to be done carefully to avoid putting pressure on the public purse," he tells @bbclaurak

This is excellent and is what rewiring the state SHOULD mean in practice!
No. 10 has just announced a secondment programme from the civil service to 18 mayoral authorities — 5-10 civil servants in each one for 6-9 months Cabinet statement from July 31 appears to aim much bigger, though, talking of a "smaller and more strategic civil service" overall
