The Epstein files remain sealed, and Congress is now being forced to act. Rep. Thomas Massie and Rep. Ro Khanna have filed a bipartisan discharge petition to compel the release of the full record. More than 33,000 pages have already been released, but most of it is redundant or already public. The real questions remain unanswered. Speculation has lingered for years that powerful figures in government, finance, and media were complicit in Epstein’s crimes. Every delay, every redaction, every selective disclosure only deepens the suspicion that the system protects the powerful at the expense of the truth. At the same time, there are reports that the Trump administration is already exerting heavy pressure on Senate Republicans over unrelated issues like central bank appointments. When the executive branch treats Congress as an extension of its will, checks and balances collapse. That same climate of pressure and intimidation surrounds the Epstein records. Institutional trust is at historic lows, especially among younger generations who see nothing but corruption and hypocrisy from those in power. If the government cannot be honest about Epstein, a scandal that has haunted the political class for decades, then there is no reason for the public to trust it on anything. As Libertarians, we demand the release of the Epstein files in full and without redaction. The record must be made clear. Until it is, the collapse of institutional trust will continue, and the public will be right to assume the worst.
