I used to think the volume of the classroom dictated the quality of the teacher. I now know learning can be loud and can be messy. Loud classrooms aren’t necessarily managed poorly and quiet ones don’t always indicate learning is happening.

That was a good game, but the NFL needs to change their archaic overtime rule. The luck of a coin flip shouldn’t have ended that game.

Heard someone today say, “The kids are going to be so behind when they get back.” But, we recognize that the only thing they’re behind is our own perception of where they should be, right? The content we assign to grade levels isn’t inherent to age. We did that. We can undo it.

Reading, writing, and math educational materials will be available for pick-up at your child's school on Monday, Sept. 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Material pick-up is for students in grades K-8. Contact your child's school if you are unable to pick-up materials on that date.

This might be extreme, but there probably is a lesson for all educators and ed leaders in there somewhere. High expectations aren’t cemented in rules and regulations. To ask for normal in an in non-normal situation feels like rules over relationships.

A friend of mine is an elementary school reading specialist. In one of her classes a little boy was hanging upside down off his bed, and getting every answer right. She said as long as he's engaged she could care less what he did in class.

We must start understanding that perception is reality, regardless of intent.

Don’t assume that you don’t matter. Each voice and each choice is important. It takes more than words. Your Practices are your Principles!

26 million people work from home at least part time and we think it’s being savvy. 3 million Teachers have to do it during a pandemic and people want their pay cut since they think they’re not working. Teachers sure do put up with a lot of crap just to educate our youth.

Money and opportunity go hand in hand. This serves as a reminder of the opportunities lost by way too many students of color by these systemic practices.
"This is systemic racism." @kcpublicschools Superintendent @MarkBedell_KCPS held nothing back Wednesday and put @KCMO officials on notice the status quo is no longer acceptable. Put up or shut up about Black lives, he said. My latest for @KCStarOpinion. amp.kansascity.com/opinion/o…
