Hahaha, we invented like every form of music that was new in the 20th century.
Francis Fukuyama: "The lack of a strong national musical tradition contributes to the weakness of American national identity."

Ok, this is serious.
Effective Immediately, all organizations using PHP for their systems are advised to be prepared for an update addressing two critical vulnerabilities. PHP is widely used for web applications. These vulnerabilities often provide a direct path to the server's file system or database. If an immediate update is not feasible, it is recommend that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated. NSA will follow up shortly with more specific guidance.

In my career we used to say “fm” for “****ing Magic!”, ie software that worked so well it seemed magical. Now every new Mac has an ‘fm’ command built in. Magic.

Did Elizabeth Holmes coming after me and my sources with everything she had and threatening to sue us out of existence bias me? Yes.
I am a big fan of you, don’t get me wrong. but My question is do you think you have any bias as a result of your experience as a journalist in this case?

Theranos whistleblower speaks truth:
I actually enjoyed “You can see everything” but people need to understand that this is not a documentary. And the device Elizabeth showed Nathan WAS NOT THE DEVICE

Feature request for @ClaudeDevs: I have multiple browser profiles and multiple Claude accounts and Claude Code constantly sends a generated Artifact to a browser that's not logged in to the same Claude account, thus giving me "Page not found" errors constantly, until I manually copy and paste the URL to the correct browser profile. Please fix and save me as I really like using artifacts!

One sentence macro model: On the way out the door, every farmer's wife says to every farmer, "the weather's looking bad so don't buy as much at the market this week, but also don't sell our crops for less than the usual price."

Here's my take on what a software factory really is This is my talk from @aiDotEngineer NYC, and I decided to record a version for everyone to watch on X. tl;dr - software engineering is becoming factory engineering, and there's new work (especially factory benchmarking) that engineers should start focusing on.

This is correct. It's one of the many obvious problems with AI doomer theory. Quite parallel with the concept of revealed preferences in economics. In fact, now that I think about it, the impossibility of pre-constructing an "alignment" function is formally identical to the impossibility of pre-constructing a preference function. TIL
Replying to @jon_stokes
I think the simpler answer than this is that alignment is impossible because a utility function is a hindsight construction that an observer constructs about an agent, and not an actual thing that exists inside an agent that can be tweaked or copied or "aligned."

Interested to know more about this guy (no opinion yet). But this quote from his essay is undoubtedly true: “Right now, New York is a one-party state with an uncompetitive political ecology. This is bad for all of us, and bad for the quality of both of our parties.”
If you want better parties, you have to make better parties. Enter: Maximum Republicans. New York needs a competitive political ecology, and two parties that compete to offer a strong, positive vision of governance. Here's my part of that grand project: maximumnewyork.com/p/maximum…

This should be pushed far and wide. Watched in every college class in the U.S. Thank you @billmaher The moral confusion is gross. "It is not a genocide, it is a counterattack in a war...Gaza equals genocide is a lie, an easily provable lie (as I have argued from first hand observations in Gaza). The fact that so many democrats go along with it is to me the party's worse moment since they undid reconstruction after the civil war...words have meaning...genocide, kill or try to kill an entire people, you can't just change the definition of genocide to mean counterattack in a war where people including civilians die, that's every war..."

Bucking Fastard directed by Werner Herzog is an absurd and delightful dark comedy. I love these sisters now more than anything.

Me: hey what’s the status Astra: Most of the runtime changes are in place, but there’s still some drift between the cached execution state and the upstream resolver. The fallback path is rehydrating correctly, though a few async boundaries are inheriting context from the previous dispatch cycle. I’m normalizing those references now so the final pass doesn’t reconcile against its own pending state. Me: cool

The man is 52 and has been headlining movies since he was 18 years old. Let him enjoy his dad bod and young sex goddesses for pity’s sake.
🚨 Leonardo DiCaprio 🚨 If Leonardo DiCaprio weren’t Leonardo DiCaprio, he’d literally just be one of thousands of Italian bakers who happen to look vaguely like Leonardo DiCaprio

I have been listening to @EconTalker for two decades. It has become such a big part of my daily commute that it is hard to imagine driving to school on Monday morning without hearing Russ’ voice through my car speakers. Thus, it makes me incredibly happy to be the guest on this week’s episode, “The Great Fertility Collapse.” I felt like a kid who, 20 years later, gets to play for his favorite football team. The talk was fun, too, and we covered some of the topics I have often emphasized here on X: the facts about fertility collapse, what we know and what we do not know, and much more. As always, we didn’t have time to cover more. So, just remember my favorite line these days: fertility and artificial intelligence are the only two issues that matter right now. I can’t think about anything else.
Birth rates are plunging around the world, including in countries once known for large families. What's driving the decline? University of Pennsylvania Professor of Economics @JesusFerna7026 joins @EconTalker to examine the mystery of falling fertility and its economic consequences. Watch a new episode of EconTalk from the @HooverInst, @Liberty_Fund, and @Econlib: plus.hoover.org/plus/researc…
