According to WSJ sources, the Trump administration has proposed Viktor Orbán for UN Secretary-General. Interesting, if true. Perhaps someone is finding Vučić a job too. Dictators with blood on their hands flee to Moscow’s Rublyovka. Those who leave promptly get jobs in international organisations 💁‍♂️

Lithuania handed a Russian fleeing political persecution back to the Kremlin. He was promptly sentenced to six years in prison. From Trump’s America, deporting anti-war Russians to Russian prisons is hardly surprising. But Lithuania — a frontline state facing the Russian threat? Deporting propagandists like Ragozin to a safe third country is one thing. Handing Putin the Russians resisting his regime is another. These people are our allies. If European governments betray them, those governments are no allies of mine.

It suits the Kremlin to have Washington believe that a deal with Putin is just around the corner. One more meeting, one more concession, one more phone call. And while the Americans wait for a peace deal, Russia keeps waging war. Russia gets concessions. Ukraine gets pressure. Kushner has again demanded that Ukraine stop striking Russian oil refineries. This works well for the Kremlin: Washington is already making concessions to Russia while demanding concrete concessions from Ukraine. As long as Moscow keeps hopes of a deal alive, the US may hold off on new sanctions and persuade Kyiv to accept additional terms for the sake of successful negotiations. Talks can go on forever. Even while the war continues. Discussing a new document or a possible summit allows American mediators to report progress toward peace. Russia retains direct access to Washington and the opportunity to sell its version of why the war began and what it would take to end it. No luck with peace? Let’s talk business. Dmitriev has reported discussions about joint projects, including nuclear-powered data centers. Walking away from the talks would then mean giving up the benefits the US administration hopes to gain. Open-ended demands allow Moscow to keep bargaining. Without a definitive list of Russian conditions, every round can end with statements about progress and the need for further consultations. Meanwhile, Moscow can keep adding demands. Take Putin’s October 16 statement about a “security zone” in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions, which he does not intend to discuss in peace negotiations. Russia maintains an additional territorial demand while simultaneously signaling its willingness to meet with the US. In St. Petersburg, watch what Russia actually agrees to do. Which strikes will it stop? When? Who will verify this? What security guarantees for Ukraine will it accept? Without this, another “very constructive conversation” will simply mean the Americans have had their hopes raised again. They will leave to prepare for the next meeting, and Russia will keep waging war.
Steve Witkoff has arrived in St Petersburg for a meeting with Putin. Lavrov said that Moscow was not expecting a miracle from Washington, the United States will at best remain competitors for Russia.

Witkoff should just ask Putin for a Russian passport and a bunker next door already — then he can finally officially represent his own government’s interests and save on gas.

Sanctioned leading Russian propagandist Rybar was not “extradited to Russia” — Europe cowardly sent him home after his European tour.
Rybar* has published an article with a map (see attached) in which he is "analyzing" "the hot season" in Europe, as he calls it. According to Rybar (who is obviously not working on his own accord but within the general line of Russian propaganda), the protests in Europe should be viewed not as a united wave but as a series of national crises, each one having their own rhythm. However, the Russian propaganda aims to ramp up hostility, conflicts and crises in Europe. It acts through social media, financing and direct intrusions. Russia's hybrid war in Europe is raging. Recognizing this is no longer enough. Proactive measures are necessary. *Rybar is a Russian "Z-propagandist", who runs a whole network of Russian propaganda Telegram channels. He was recently detained in Montenegro where he was recording a video for the Solovyev Live network. Later, Rybar was extradited to Russia.

The American president thinks this is "fine"
A horrific Russian strike in the Kharkiv region. A “shahed” struck people directly – in a park near an ordinary café. Pure atrocity. Six people were killed, including children. A little girl was killed in a stroller – her name was Angelina, she was just over a year old, born in August 2025… Her mother’s name was Inna. She died in the hospital… Another girl who was killed was 11 years old. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Another 14 people were injured, including six more children. I am grateful to everyone who supports Ukraine under these circumstances and helps us shoot down “shaheds,” shoot down missiles, and stop Russian assaults. These are horrific photos, but behind them are shattered lives and the truth about this war. Lives must be protected. Ukraine needs air defense. You can't think about making money with Russia as long as it continues its asinine war. We ask that sanctions on Russia stay in place as long as the killings continue. We ask America to be strong, and we ask it to apply the Lindsey Graham law. We ask Europe to continue its support. We ask that everything possible be done to bring peace and guarantee security. Ukraine wants peace. It is Russia that has insisted on continuing the killing all this time. The world has enough strength to stop the war. That strength must finally be used – against the murderers.

Garry Kasparov’s narratives about the West and support for Ukraine, aimed at Western audiences, are very accurate and deserve nothing but support. Unfortunately, his analysis about the situation in Russia are considerably less convincing. Having argued against participating in “elections” — a position I consider fundamentally wrong when it comes to tools for weakening the regime (anti-war election campaigns made a significant contribution to that effort this year) — Kasparov now claims that “the dictator (Putin) could not have waged a war on this scale for almost five years without substantial support not only from the elites but also from most of society.” With all due respect: If by silent disagreement you mean “support” for the war, then it is right to talk about “most of society.” It is precisely the “available information,” which we have been analysing 24/7 since the first day of the invasion, that indicates that most Russians do not support the war. Their opposition remains silent, expressed through relatively safe signals such as support for peace “if Putin decides so” - a response to a poll that feels psychologically safer to give, without fear of repercussions. Over the past couple of years, Russians have increasingly stopped deferring to Putin in opinion polls: more than half have explicitly supported negotiations. The rise in support for negotiations “without conditions,” and even on condition of “returning the captured territories,” is also impossible to ignore. We can discuss the reasons for this silent lack of support, but we certainly cannot claim that any majority in Russia is in favour of the war.

Dear Prime Minister @AndrisKulbergs , how exactly would a visa ban on all Russians help combat sabotage in Europe when, in recent months alone, those detained or suspected in sabotage cases in Germany, Estonia and the United Kingdom have been Latvian citizens, likely acting on orders from Russian intelligence services — not Russians on tourist visas?
