Maryland has no standalone home education statute. Home instruction falls under COMAR 13A.10.01, a regulation adopted in 1987 and amended in 2019. For over 30 years, MACHE has helped Maryland families find their footing, track legislation, and connect with community.

Factions are often treated as a flaw in a free society. They are closer to a fingerprint. Where people are free to think, speak, and associate, they will form groups. Madison saw this in Federalist No. 10. The absence of factions would be the real warning sign. See article by @Lauren_Gideon in comments.

The math is right. A credit is worth more because it replaces the tax owed itself. The Joint Committee on Taxation estimates it reduces federal revenue by about $26 billion over ten years. Revenue not collected still has to be made up somewhere, through borrowing, cuts, or other taxpayers. Redirected is not the same as kept.
A parent asked me: “Is a tax credit the same as a deduction?” No. A $1,700 deduction might save you a few hundred dollars. A $1,700 credit cuts your tax bill by the full $1,700. That's why the new scholarship credit is a big deal.

Wise words!
When the music fades from this week’s elections, honest people may feel disoriented. Increasingly, our loyalties have shifted to people and slogans and away from the laws of nature and of Nature’s God. What we built our “house” on matters more in the aftermath of a metaphorical storm than it did on a sunny, still day. Now that people and slogans have been exposed as sand, we may enter an uncomfortable season not unlike the moment Pilate asked, “What is truth?” Whether that question is asked in defeat or as an honest reckoning will matter, for each individual and for all of us together.

AI democratization will hurt the American moat. Our public schools won't keep up with international education. Homeschooling is the way to create a moat for your own family.
Prediction: College kids are screwed. I’m changing my mind on AI. It will drive a wedge between the competent and the average that is so wide the average and below average won’t be able to add value in white collar work. Why hire a $100k a year college grad who knows nothing in NYC or San Fran when I can hire an AI native engineer in Colombia for half that? Why hire an analyst when an AI native finance manager in South Africa is half the price and can do 3x the work? Why hire an average sales person in the states for $100k when you can get a South African with Grok bot to be 10x as productive? Global talent + AI is now much much closer to the best talent in America and much better than average talent in America. What are all of these people going to do for work? What do I train my kids to do to make sure they can earn a living?

Homeschooling is about following the Biblical model for raising the next generation, not the world's model. It's that simple.

Murphy's Law: anything that can go wrong will go wrong.   Engineers use this as a design principle: distribute risk. Don't build single points of failure.   A centralized education system is a single point of failure for the ideas of an entire generation.   When a decentralized, family-driven educational culture gets something wrong, one family is affected.   When a centralized system gets something wrong, a generation is.

We released a video documenting how the freedoms secured in our founding set the stage for the freedom that grounds the modern homeschooling movement. Historians, homeschooling pioneers, and HSLDA founders shared their perspectives. We hope you are inspired by them, as we have been! Watch here: hslda.org/explore/americas-2…

I have been against vouchers since Newt Gingrich tried to roll them out in the early 90s and my objections have changed little - vouchers (school choice) provides a pathway for government regulation of private schools, religious schools, and homeschooling families. We need a separation between education and the State.

Replying to @EduIndependence
Voucher programs are inherently one more avenue of government control.
