I asked Google how far away the pulsar PSR J0952–0607 is, and it asked for permission to use my location to do the calculation.

Mathematicians complained so much that they got UBI. there’s a lesson in here
We want to support the mathematics community in turning progress in AI into deeper human understanding and new discoveries. To support that goal, we are contributing $5 million to a new Simons Foundation initiative to help mathematicians examine, understand, and build on results produced by AI, including the results we recently published. The funding, managed and awarded by the @SimonsFdn will support workshops, conferences, and special programs. We will also provide access to our models and computing resources to Simons Foundation-supported researchers.

people are starting to realize. there *are* no moats left. the only true moat in existence was intelligence, and now that's out of the equation.

Effective Mathematics: instead of thinking about math directly, you go work in finance or something, make a bunch of money, and then spend that on tokens, asking the AI to solve some unsolved math problems

10 remarks on AI and math that can be true all at once: 1. The recent progress is stunning and exciting. 2. The Quasi-Riemann Hypothesis is arguably Fields-medal level. 3. Mathematics is being transformed and there is no way back. 4. OpenAI doesn't give a fuck about the future of mathematics. 5. Half-baked unreadable preprints claiming major results can effectively stall mathematical progress. 6. Some mathematicians are responding with naive, overly defensive comments. 7. The social-media wankers framing this as "OpenAI tramples gatekeeping" have no experience of mathematical research. 8. The product of mathematics is clarity and understanding. Not theorems, by themselves. 9. Mathematics is a critical infrastructure of human cognition. The human need for understanding isn't obsolete and it can't be offloaded to machines. 10. We haven't "solved" mathematics and we won't get there before the Sun burns out.

a while ago I made a bunch of unhinged requests to Amazon's shopping AI about things like "the best conceal carry holster for my dog" and I'm pleased to announce it's paid off

Jev is INSANE. I built this in an evening and morning. A real-time trading bot ingesting onchain+offchain data to make rapid decisions about trades. Fully autonomous. So far it has lost me $31,680.

Remember JD Vance on the left? "They seem to hate the citizens of their own country and care more about people outside their own borders." "Just google ordo amoris," he told @RoryStewartUK. Well, google this new PNAS study: 743,402 people across 121 societies. Conclusion: those who are unkind to outsiders also tend to be unkind to their own. And those who are kind to outsiders are also kinder to their own. Turns out decent people are just decent people, and assholes are just assholes 💡

Usually exploration can continue after a proof is found. People study it, simplify it, teach it, try its ideas elsewhere. That takes time and hard work. If we celebrate only the solved problem, we risk overlooking the work that makes its solution useful to other mathematicians. I would welcome AI that helps us uncover more of the map, including some places we hadn't thought to look. That is what I hear in this concern by mathematicians : a wish to preserve the understanding that mathematical work creates. Reaching the city matters. So does what we learn about the world on the way.

What if a spacecraft could cycle between Earth and Moon orbits, performing multiple circuits of each, naturally and indefinitely, with zero propulsion? We’ve discovered a new class of stable, prograde, low-energy cycler orbits that do just that. Why these orbits matter: Ballistic → fuel-free Stable → long-term ready Near-chaotic → agile with low ΔV Low-energy → access to Earth/Moon, Lagrange points, Sun–Earth L1/L2, even heliocentric space At the AAS/AIAA Astrodynamics Specialist Conference in Boston next week, I’ll present on a new family of ballistic Earth-Moon cycler orbits that are stable, prograde, and mission agile—unlike any cyclers in the current literature. The example below is shown in both the Earth-Moon rotating frame and inertial frame. Conference Paper: ross.aoe.vt.edu/papers/ross-…

We benchmarked DeepSeek V4.1 Flash by @deepseek_ai . It reached 98% of GPT-6 Astra’s score at 1.4% of the cost on everyday design tasks based on user requests. Every model except Astra scored lower AND cost more. Are open models overtaking closed ones? Full results below ↘️
