Why does everything feel stuck? Why is life getting more expensive while progress seems to be slowing down?
A new book by Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson offers a new answer -- and a roadmap out.
It’s called Abundance. And it might just change how you see Irish politics. 🧵

Think of it.
It’s Dublin in 2040. We build apartments that people can afford. There are tall and modern buildings in the Docks and a reclaimed Dublin Port. Fully residential Georgian townhouses.
We can build the Hibernian metropolis. All of this is a policy choice.
An excellent conversation with the very astute @fehelium of @ProgressIreland! A must-listen if you care about making Ireland better.
Ireland has made enormous strides in the Twenty-First Century, and my guest @fehelium wants it to continue by using proven policy solutions from around the world.
Let's link some great investors with great startups! Who is raising right now? And who is investing?

44 Years ago today, Monsignor Horan announced to the nation he was building an airport as this iconic interview with RTE's Jim Fahy aired on Irish TV 📺
Many didn't believe it would ever succeed on a foggy boggy hill in the West of Ireland - but guess what we’re still here 😎🛫

Here’s a delivery drone dropping 5 super fresh pizzas into my garden in Dublin 3 minutes after they left the oven.
I know it’s cool to talk about bottlecaps and cookie banners as Europe’s big innovations, but don’t forget there are legit areas where amazing stuff is happening.

Interesting event @dogpatchlabs where different ideas to make Ireland competitive were presented.
@F_McCullough of @ProgressIreland discussed ways Ireland could learn from Singapore to address several challenges.
He mentioned that Singapore’s success is attributed to a fear of losing - Kiasu - practical solutions and a meritocratic culture.
Ireland could benefit from adopting similar strategies while maintaining its unique values.
“I think a country needs other values other than just GDP go up”, he said👏🏻
@TheOisinMoran discussed establishing a “Green Zone” named Tír na nÓg or land of the youth for longevity research aiming to decentralise Ireland’s economy and create significant economic growth.
He cited the State’s Shannon Free Trade Zone which the Chinese took inspiration from with Shenzen named after Shannon.
Moran said Cork would be an ideal place for this zone.
The message I took was that Ireland needs ambition if we are to tackle the challenges of the 21st century particularly in light of a protectionist America and European Union (EU) bureaucracy
🚀 🇮🇪

⚛️ An Irishman—Ernest Walton—was the first to split the atom. It's time we properly honour his legacy and harness atomic energy for the benefit of us all ⚛️
Former @EirGrid CEO Mark Foley states "there is no net zero without nuclear", while congratulating france on the commissioning of a new nuclear reactor
But why not have an Irish nuclear industry, supporting the Irish economy, creating Irish jobs, improving Irish energy security?
This 1955 article about nuclear energy from The @irishtimes:
“Where there is no vision the people perish”
