Unfortunate that 2 MPs of South Odisha, representing Berhampur & Koraput, appealed the state govt to postpone the OCS Exam on Oct 31 in view of the unprecedented floods, OPSC & the state Govt ignored this. This is how a tragedy-struck South Odisha is treated by the State Govt.
So, 2 MPs from Ganjam and Koraput who genuinely raised concerns for OPSC OCS Mains Aspirants going through trouble due to #cyclonarnab to the @CMO_Odisha Yet the Govt still believes it's okay to conduct the exam. Either the Govt knows more than the Local Representatives about the situation there or The govt deliberately doesn't want to hear the Student's pleas. Is this why the People of Odisha Voted @BJP4Odisha ?? If the communication & situation is fine. Why would your @CMO_Odisha have to take a chopper to visit the Flooded regions? I didn't want to say anything to the govt. But this is pure betrayal & seriously ignoring the concern of the Students. And you expect them to Vote for you Next for some cute Freebies??? NEVER.

A well-marked low-pressure area has formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal, adjoining Andaman Sea and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The system is likely to intensify into a depression within the next 12 hours and move west-northwestwards towards the Andhra Pradesh coast, potentially reaching the region by the evening of November 2. #OdishaWeather #LowPressure #BayOfBengal #AndhraPradesh #WeatherUpdate

Odisha is the first state to draft a rare-earth corridor. Mine, separate, refine, make metal, make magnets - all in one cluster around Gopalpur. Odisha rarely trends. But it quietly digs up the metals India is built on. It produces about 53% of India’s iron ore, 73% of its bauxite and almost all of its chromite. Over 38% of India’s mineral output by value comes from this one state. And it is growing faster than India. Its economy grew an estimated 7.9% last year, ahead of India’s 7.4%. Now it is going after the metal the whole world is fighting over. India imports every magnet it uses. The sand is there: Odisha holds about 30% of India’s beach-sand heavy minerals. One site alone has 328 million tonnes of raw sand, enough for 50 years. The plant is there too. IREL has processed these sands at Chatrapur since 1986, right next to an all-weather port. The same sand also carries thorium, the long-term fuel of India’s nuclear plan. Odisha already feeds India’s steel. Next, it could make India’s magnets.

When other states suffer, Odisha stands with them. But when Ganjam and Gajapati face devastating floods, where is that solidarity? Are Southern Odisha’s lives worth less? Why must our people fight even for national attention during their darkest hour? #ArnabCyclone

Illegal Bangladeshis who have repeatedly voted in Indian elections confess on @IndiaToday camera as they leave Bengal due to Special Intensive Revision *SIR* of Electoral Rolls in Bengal. Not one, not two several `ILLEGAL BANGLADESHIS' show their voter I-card as they leave Bharat
A heated exchange broke out between India Today's @gauravcsawant and @sardesairajdeep during a debate on the voting rights of alleged Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants in India. While Sawant claimed that they would not be allowed to vote, Sardesai questioned the evidence behind the claims and sought details. The discussion escalated as both exchanged sharp remarks, with the debate ending on the note that the truth would come out. #IndiaFirst #IndianDemocracy #VotingRights #BangladeshiImmigrants #Rohingya #IndiaTodaySocial

MY TWO PENNY ON RUSHIKULYA FLOOD Was this a failure of flood management? There is a lesson here that extends beyond Ganjam. Cyclone preparedness in India has improved considerably. We are now capable of forecasting cyclones several days ahead, evacuating large populations and deploying specialised rescue forces. But flood management requires another level of preparedness. A cyclone warning must be translated into a catchment-level rainfall assessment, river-flow prediction and embankment vulnerability analysis. The fact that the cyclone was forecast does not automatically mean that the resulting river flood was adequately anticipated. The Rushikulya disaster raises precisely this question. Can we claim to be adequately prepared for cyclones if we are not equally prepared for the floods that their rainfall can generate hundreds of kilometres away from the point of landfall? That, to my mind, is the larger public-policy issue. What I would particularly like to obtain next I suggest that we pursue five specific sets of primary records before drawing any final conclusions: IMD: Actual hourly rainfall records for October 27–29, 2026, particularly Patrapur, Sorada, Sanakhemundi, Dharakote and the upper catchment. Central Water Commission: Hourly river-gauge readings and discharge data for the Rushikulya at Purushottampur and other stations. Odisha Water Resources Department: Embankment design specifications, design flood levels, crest elevations and maintenance records for the Goba and Achhuli stretches. Dam authorities: Inflow and outflow records of reservoirs in the Rushikulya basin. District administration: The chronology of warnings, evacuation instructions and the actual times at which the breaches developed. The most important missing evidence is the actual flood discharge and the design capacity of the breached embankments. Once these two are established, we can begin to distinguish between an extraordinary natural flood that overwhelmed the infrastructure and an infrastructure failure that magnified the disaster. I would strongly recommend that we develop this into a properly documented investigative paper, rather than a conventional newspaper account of the floods. The objective should be to establish not merely what happened, but why it happened, whether it could have been anticipated, and whether the damage could have been prevented or substantially reduced.
