1,08,24,651. That is how many names are on the SIR ASDD (absent, shifted, dead, duplicate) list in Karnataka. One in every five voters on the 2023 roll. Behind every one of those numbers is a person. A daughter who married and moved to another village. A migrant worker away for the harvest. A young man who stepped out when the booth officer came. A transgender citizen who has already spent a lifetime fighting to be counted. At SABAR Institute, we went through every single name, all 224 assembly constituencies, and this is what we found: 🔹 85% of those removed are alive. Only 15 in 100 were marked dead. 🔹In 5 Bengaluru seats, more names were deleted than the number of people who voted there in 2023. 🔹 42.7% of Karnataka's third-gender voters are on the list, more than twice the rate for everyone else. 🔹 Outside Bengaluru, among young voters marked "shifted", twice as many women as men were removed. 🔹 Poorer districts, and districts with more Scheduled Caste residents, lost more voters. We did this because a name on a roll is not paperwork. It is a voice. When the most vulnerable are struck off quietly, someone has to count.
