Legendary Australian Mining Investor Tony Manini On The Biggest Opportunity Of His Career youtu.be/BtpEKfsFJuw?si=m1cB…
It's a great pleasure to welcome Tony Manini to Goldfinger Capital. Mr. Manini is a geologist, mining entrepreneur, and Chairman of Andina Copper. Tony brings more than 35 years of experience across over 20 countries, spanning exploration, discovery, financing, development, and corporate transactions. His career includes senior roles with Rio Tinto, Oxiana, and OZ Minerals. He also co-founded EMR Capital and Tigers Realm Group, helping build businesses including NexGen Energy and C3 Metals. Today, he chairs C3 Metals and Asiamet Resources alongside Andina. With experience connecting geological opportunity to capital and project execution, Tony offers a valuable perspective on what it takes to build a mining company.
I really enjoyed this long form conversation with Tony, delving into his career, what drives him, how he manages risk in a venture capital industry, and what he's most excited about today. @AndinaCopper @C3Metals @AsiametTweets $ANDC.V $CCCM.V $GDX $RIO

If I had one wish from the $CLMT call it's that they would clearly explain that they already have 2 months of Q4 base oil pricing locked in.
They did explain the flow through on the Q2 call, but it would be nice if they were very explicit for all the rubes in the back

$ANDC.V More 1.0% copper close to surface (with no nasties and likely very high recovery rates) is obviously nice. However, at this stage, a couple key things to note that are likely being missed by the market right now -
1) This is a 3.5-4.5km footprint porphyry system (~1.8-2.2km for now on Cobrasco North owned by Andina alone). With high (straight) copper grades in multiple places at surface. It appears that there won't be a shortage of >0.2% Cu tonnage (at least 2Bt overall), and the only remaining question is the extent of the better (high) grades
2) With its large horizontal extent, limited vertical for the best tonnage (no need for a very deep pit later in mine life), and slightly steepening topography in the E-W direction, it lends itself to almost an ideal open- pit situation
3) Note that the 3D view in the news release shows downhole values cut at 0.5% (straight) copper. That paints the picture on its own
If the company shows more (new) shallow high grades and grows the overall tonnage from surface with E-W drilling (discovery "width"), we will likely be looking at a Tier 1 copper asset - and that's in a jurisdiction that has just drastically improved itself and become more friendly for business

Blue Moon:
Current market cap: $308M
Current value of 8.85M ACG shares: $208M (up ~20% since transaction, certainly implies Blue Moon left something on the table with Nussir)
Cash minus obligation to pay back drawn amounts for Nussir: $72.5M
Current implied EV of everything else (Springer, Apex, Blue Moon, Turner): $27M
On the one hand, I was sad to see Nussir go at below what I believe is fair value. And I understand the market not valuing the ACG shares at their NAV since there's 12 months before their distribution and it's an illiquid stock anyway. But what I don't understand is the following:
- Nussir permitting concerns now substantially derisked and value realized for the project (looking at you, Viceroy! You got the price action here right despite being wrong on every fundamental point)
-start of operations at Springer & Apex in ~12 months. At spot, Springer could produce more annual FCF than Blue Moon's current market cap. DSO at Apex could mine stuff with an in-situ value of $11,000/tonne at spot germanium prices. Whatever the recovery/payability is on that, you should be making money.
- I think some have viewed the Blue Moon team as doing too many deals in too short a span of time, and get confused by an ever-changing narrative. The company has picked up 3 projects in the last 13 months and divested two. But it's a substantially more rationalized pitch now (hub-and-spoke for critical minerals in the Western US) than it was the last time the share price was here (two small polymetallic projects in tough jurisdictions with no linkage between them).
- The critical minerals rout here hurts as much as anything. Until this Nussir deal, Blue Moon was holding up as well as/better than the sector, possibly because the market viewed it as plurality copper. Now that's gone and the investors who were in it for near-term copper exposure have likely moved on.
I think the value from here is remarkable, but I also said that six months ago. But the market just seems to have given up here. I haven't.

EU Gas storage builds look to have peaked:
EU at 75% (against previous low of 77%)
Germany at 61.7% (against previous low of 72.4%)
The hope was super El Nino/mild winter would give EU another week or two of builds.

Missed the inflation target for 5.5 years, 3.8% inflation, chaos in French streets, sovereign spreads blowing up, and continued economic decline.
Makes one wonder what a bad job would have looked like.

Bushels has nailed these energy and metals rotation trades all year.
When he speaks, I listen.
In August I rotated back out of miners, after a rebound, into energy stocks.
Now I’m rotating out of energy into miners. Gold and copper in particular. I think gold defended these levels before and it will again. The setup into 2027 is perfect.
Copper is trading near all-time highs and Chinese premiums are surging. Yet the equities are a bargain. Why? Because of an AI growth scare that never mattered anyways. Copper is a supply story.
When everyone panic sells I buy. This is the way.
