This is of course important because the US’ strategy for hegemony is absolute destruction and subversion of political interests of others around the globe. This is also important because it is an incredibly unsustainable vision of power & stability. Empires fall. You know this

I know increasingly a few liberals are wanting to understand whats happening with foreign affairs, Im gonna cue you to consider this and explore some learning on it: Most Dems’ approach to affordability for Americans is stabilizing US hegemony over the globe. That’s their vision

Data centers are (mostly) automated server warehouses that require very few workers after construction ends. States are spending over $1 million in tax breaks for every individual long-term job that's created. It's a terrible trade-off.
Replying to @davenewworld_2
Do these data centers provide enough jobs to justify that kind of exemption? I thought most of them employed 100 -150 people at most.

The premise that we should end arms sales to Israel as a FUTURE contingent based on FUTURE behavior is obviously nonsensical and dishonest. They killed over 20,000 children (likely double that). If this doesn’t mean you’d end arms sales NOW than literally nothing they do will.

made by the same US State Dept that actively covered up Israeli war crimes. in other words: it’s a commitment to change nothing & keep arming Israel but this sounds bad so its presented in this chickenshit, faux universalist “why are you singling out Israel?” victim posture (2/2)

This “Israel should be treated like every other country” line is a clever dodge. It has everything: flattening genocide with other human rights abuses, vaguely implies antisemitism (Free Space), avoids any normative determination & defers to a mysterious far off IHL finding (1/2)
.@jonfavs: Would you restrict weapons sales at all [to Israel]? Shapiro: America sells weapons to lots of countries...and should those nations violate the terms of the sales, they would no longer be permitted to purchase those weapons. I think Israel should be treated as other nations are.

This is why they want to break up the up the EU, too. American capitalism (and all its labour laws) are still “inspired” by their system of slavery. Addicted to free and cut rate labour. It’s what their economy is built on.

Like the evilest company ever. This is who Burnham wants to help design his signature plan to 'end 40 years of neoliberalism'.

My god, they also designed the genocidal Gaza Humanitarian Foundation that killed over 2000 starving Palestinians, and shot tens of thousands more. Why on earth would Burnham EVER work with these people? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2025_G…

The consulting group Burnham is using to make his 10-year plan is the same one (Boston Consulting Group) which helped to craft the 'Trump Riviera' plan for Gaza (!!!) The plan proposed the 'voluntary migration' of nearly the entire Palestinian population of Gaza.
The Times's weekend read: * Forget the 10-year plan. Forget the Budget. Forget the everyday fixes. The only question that matters in government right now is what Donald Trump does next on Iran * John Healey, the Chancellor, told colleagues this week that the end of the conflict would be the 'single biggest economic benefit' possible for Britain * He was not underselling it. We are at a clear fork in the road * In one direction lies a world of pain. Inflation rising to 6.2% in Q3 2027. Energy bills heading well north of £2,000. Rising prices at the pump, rising mortgage rates and above all a 'catastrophic' fall in living standards * The other path offers a much brighter prospect. Inflation falling to 2.25% next year. Lower borrowing costs. Higher growth. The decline in living standards 'largely reversed'. It is the kind of shift in economic fortunes that Chancellors can only dream of * What Trump does next is hugely consequential for Britain. But senior government figures acknowledge we have little influence * The optimists in government see Vance's extraordinary Tweet as an attempt to get ahead of the formal climbdown by Trump. The pessimists think he intervened because Trump wasn't moving and is poised to announce another military intervention * But the fact is they don't know. Nobody in British politics does. Trump is an extraordinary capricious president at the best of times. He is backed into a corner. What he does next is anyone's guess. * So what does a prime minister so constrained by the state of the public finances and decisions being made by a man in the White House 3,600 miles away actually do? * Enter Burnham's 10 year plan, which as @HugoGye revealed has already slipped into the New Year. Why is it delayed? The reason is actually pretty simple. They thought if they did it in the run-up to Christmas people wouldn't be listening. Far better to do it at the start of the year. Which is probably right * Burnham feels people are already underestimating the importance of the plan. 'We have to think big in this moment,' he told No 10 staffers. 'The big vision for where the country is going.' The plan, he said, was about getting the buy-in of the electorate * It will be broad brush with three themes, as @benrileysmith revealed - growing up, getting on and growing old - and policies in each area. Education, energy, public control. It is trying to put flesh on Burnham's until now fairly abstract vision * Behind the scenes there is a hive of activity. @benclatworthy reveals that the Boston Consulting Group - a giant US management consultancy - have been drafted in. This is not without controversy. It was involved in the plan for a 'Trump Riviera' in the Gaza Strip * But one person working on the plan said that translating Burnham's broad political philosophy into tangible pledges with timelines is proving challenging. They say that Burnham has set out the direction of his government but not the destination * 'There are a number of issues, like what exactly does ‘public control’ of utilities mean in practice, and how do you achieve that? Likewise Brexit and social care. If it is a ten-year plan, people want to know exactly what the end point is but he has deliberately not set that out. It is a bit like trying to cut your way through a rainforest' Read it here: thetimes.com/uk/politics/art… And listen here on our podcast The State of It with @benrileysmith and @lara_spirit youtu.be/0tQKXqhf_aI?si=8P-G…

The issue with exclusively relying on elections is that it teaches you to place all your trust in candidates who currently are, generally speaking, proxies for capital interests. That's why voting can't replace working class organizing. We need our own movement to apply pressure.

Countries are being threatened now to close the borders with Iran.
BREAKING: US formally demands Iraq to close all its border crossings with Iran, leaving only two open, Iraq's foreign minister tells Al Jazeera. "The US is threatening Iraq with sanctions if it does not comply," an Iraqi official said. It comes just hours after the US launched operation "Iron Gate" to isolate Iran by land by cutting off Iran's land routes.
