We are falling further behind with this in #Ireland
#Oireachtas is hopelessly conservative in bringing essential social legislation 😔

I like the concept of The Third Age (see Wiki), and intend to keep going ‘till I can’t.
When I experience a serious loss of capacity, the choice of Voluntary Assisted Dying is important for me & we don’t have it yet in Ireland 😳😔

I bookmarked, nice post. Albeit on X 80 seems to be some demarcation line for being “really old”. I am in several hiking groups and that concept would get a lot of pushback. We still hike up and down mountains, steep hills and valleys, and for hours at a time.

The Hippocratic Oath reflects elitist thinking from well over 2,000 years ago, and when life expectancy was in the other of 35-45 years.
Important to see it of its time and its limitations, and the needs of a much older and medically complex society 🤔

Bonne lecture... @CharlotteDarche

The numbers will continue to increase. Only #VoluntaryAssistedDying legislation which is truly compassionate, wide enough to include rather than exclude is wanted & needed by the majority of people, will stop the flow overseas. – at Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown, Ireland
These new figures from @DIGNITAS_org provide yet more evidence that growing numbers of terminally ill people in Britain are looking abroad for reassurance and control at the end of life because they cannot get that choice at home. #AssistedDying

If the Senedd rejects the TIA bill and the NHS is forbidden to participate in Wales, it will create a two-tier system where the wealthy are able to access an assisted death privately and less wealthy people cannot afford the option.
