This NASA visualisation has it all: It shows the CO2 emitted into the earth's atmosphere + clarifies who is responsible for the climate crisis: we, the Global North. 1/4

Unless you deepen your understanding of the system and the society to which you have been born, you will forever be no more than a servant to it. Understand this. You are not loved or protected by this system, which you uphold and have been convinced to protect. 1/

🧵Here's a thread about an obscure economic theory from a century and a half ago, which is about to become a MASSIVE deal. ⚡️It helps explains why tackling climate change is going to be v v hard. Some say impossible. The story begins with this building👇

I repeatedly see some climate activists, lashing out at the public for not doing more to pressurize our crooked politicians into taking much more climate action. I feel their frustration, but they're mistaken, because they fail to see how the public are being gaslighted. 1/🧵

The massive influx of cheap import goods, and the lack a function to filter them out of searches, has absolute ruined Amazon. It takes so long to scroll through the hundreds of poorly made, no-name brand tat before you find a reputable offering for what you need. Utter dogshit.

Here's some brilliant news to brighten your Sunday - in 2023, Britain generated more electricity from renewables than from fossil fuels! And we're unlikely to see this trend reversed. Read @DrIAGWilson, Joseph Day and Katarina Pegg in @ConversationUK @bIGIdeas_UoB theconversation.com/britain-…

Did you know you can set a Samsung phone's charge limit to 85% to extend its battery lifespan (especially if it's routinely left plugged in)? Search for "Protect Battery" on your phone. Brilliant bit of advice hidden in this video from @JamesCookeVlogs youtube.com/watch?v=l164TEi5…

67 gCO2e/kWh Fantastic. More turbines (and solar, and batteries) needed. Vital to keep reducing carbon intensity of the grid.

This week, I wrote about the Great Enshittening - the digital services we rely on becoming extractive piles of shit. It didn't result from the decaying the morals of tech leaders, but from the collapse of the forces that discipline corporations: locusmag.com/2023/11/comment… 1/

A brilliant essay by @cketchamwild on the illogical and frankly psychopathic economic reasoning that reduces mass death, planetary tipping points and societal collapse to mere hiccups in economic life. Well worth reading in full. theintercept.com/2023/10/29/…

SUNDAY THREAD: This week the IEA updated their groundbreaking 1.5 degree Net Zero report. I was lucky enough to be a peer reviewer, and I want to explain in my own words what I think it means.. Yes we can still keep to 1.5 degrees! Were you ready to give up? So many people were

Excellent thread. Trials and tribulations of rail travel, with humour. I used the trains for London fortnightly for 13yrs back in the day. Worst that happened to me was sleeping (I called it the sleeperless) through Euston, then awakening at the Wembley depot. Was late for work.
I’m not quite sure how to explain what’s happened tonight, because it’s still happening - but here goes… At 4:40pm I jumped on a train from London to Edinburgh.. It was comfy, it was quiet In hindsight, too good to last…
