I fully accept what happened yesterday. It is sad, I will admit that. But it also feels like a catharsis.
BIP-148 is celebrated as Bitcoin Independence Day, because it proved that ordinary users, running nodes in their homes, could force the most powerful mining cartels and corporations in the industry to back down. The users had no hashrate, no exchanges, no lobbyists. They had conviction and they had nodes, and that was enough.
BIP-110 ran the same play with the same conviction, a reasoning that was shared by all bitcoiners five years ago (Bitcoin is money and not a grift database), and node support at levels at least comparable to 2017. This time the miners and the corporate layer simply refused to follow. They extended their spam-friendly chain and moved on like nothing happened.
Remember yesterday as Bitcoin Dependence Day.
What changed between 2017 and 2026?
Not the users. They showed up with the same fire.
What changed is everything that grew in the years between. ETFs. Treasury companies. Custodians holding millions of coins for people who will never touch a node. Hashrate concentrated into a handful of pools building templates for the whole world. Capture of the governance of the reference implementation resulting in stark philosophical pivot.
Those already celebrating Bitcoin Dependence Day are not simply cheering an outcome they won. They are treating evidence that miners and the corporate layer now control Bitcoin as if it were a grand cypherpunk victory, while ridiculing the people who fought for decentralization and for Bitcoin as money.
In my opinion, and in my heart, legacy Bitcoin is not what I signed up for. Captured. Centralized. Led by suits.
No longer about freedom, sovereignty, or the mission of separating money from state.
No longer about the things that made me a ride or die bitcoiner for many years.
The fire that originally drew me to Bitcoin is still alive in the node runners who supported BIP-110. I will follow it where it goes.
As for legacy Bitcoin, I have no interest in it anymore as a freedom project. In my mind, it is now a stock.

Reminder: Nobody has made a counter-fork to reject BIP110. So BIP110 remains uncontested. Activation is certain.

I know that not everyone will agree. But if/when BIP110 activates, I won't be gloating.
I'm not going to exile people for being wrong or disagreeing. I am not going to say "I told you so" or discredit them for buying into the biggest COVID-level manipulation campaign in Bitcoin of all time.
They will always have a place in Bitcoin because it is open to all. Node runners run the show, and there is nothing we can do about it besides run one ourselves.
Looking forward to this afternoon. See you guys on the other side.

~24 hours until signaling BIP110 becomes mandatory for Bitcoin miners.
Mining blocks without signaling will then forfeit all block rewards!

Life is too short to die surrounded by toys. Boomers and millennials largely suck at realizing this.

I did my own investigation because I obviously don't trust them.
What I found is that the external dependency of the firmware with the critical vulnerability hidden in it was written by CoinKite's CTO @DocHex pretending to be someone else.

The pivot is astonishing.
From:
“Buy Coldcard! It’s the absolute best! (Sponsored by Coinkite)”
To:
“Let me help you move your coins… I’m just a really super nice guy. I'll even do it for free!"
Nauseating.
The arsonist is now playing the hero.

He should be doing this since he is insuring Bitcoin. That is his job, and it should have been being done before Coldcard.

344 blocks (~2d 9h) until BIP-110 mandatory signaling.
The risk asymmetry is growing.
A chain split opens multiple very unpredictable paths. A rush by miners to signal in the next 48 hours, simply to remove uncertainty, would not be surprising.

I was told everyone who uses bitcoin is motivated by profit.
You're saying their might be other incentives?
I'm shocked.

Hodlonaut on the pressure campaign to make him drop BIP-110:
"The lengths people have gone to, to intimidate me out of supporting it. My DMs are full of it. People reaching out: what are you doing with this BIP-110 support? Your reputation is going to hell.
It starts with friendly nudging, then threats. And then, when they realize I'm actually tying myself to the mast, it's just straight hostility and smearing.
But I don't care what people I don't respect say about me. I don't want any standing or position among people who don't share my principles. I'm very much supporting BIP-110."

Sorry to hear that, we're still signaling for BIP110 and we've been getting overwhelmingly positive feedback for it. The few people calling us names are core supporters
