Today is the #InternationalDayfortheEradicationofPoverty. Poverty is rarely the whole story of trafficking, but it is often where the story begins. A job offer abroad looks different when school fees are due and there is no income at home.
For survivors, the risk doesn't end at rescue. Returning to the same poverty can lead to re-trafficking. Through our Freedom First Institute(FFI), survivors combine recovery with income generating skills, savings & start-up support and graduate with a path to their own livelihood
Every FFI graduate who earns a steady income closes a door that traffickers once used, and often steadies a whole household. Ending poverty and ending trafficking are closely linked work. #EndPoverty #EndHumanTrafficking #EverFreeUganda #EconomicEmpowerment
Rural women feed families & hold communities together, yet traffickers often target them first, with fake jobs, false marriage proposals & promises of better lives in town/abroad. Following #InternationalDayofRuralWomen, our work alongside them continues everyday. #EndTrafficking
Yesterday was #InternationalDayoftheGirlChild. We spent it on one question: what makes a girl harder to traffic? Usually something ordinary. A girl who is still in school, and an adult she trusts enough to ask, "Is this job offer real?"
To parents and guardians: before a girl travels for work, find out who the employer is. Get an address and a working phone number, and agree on regular check-ins. A few questions now can prevent months of harm.
A girl who owns her future is a girl no trafficker can reach. If you suspect trafficking, engage pokice or call the Sauti national hotline 116 or reach us on [email protected].
