Parents, educators, researchers, and others concerned about the promotion of Facilitated Communication, a thoroughly discredited but persistent technique.

The "but still" part of your comment is the part proponents of FC/S2C/RPM and telepathy count on and never resolve. Reliably controlled testing would, most likely, resolve the "but still." If not, then tests could be set up to resolve questions that arise from the first tests.
Some of that was impressive and some of it was complete misses. I want to see more. I mean, if that kid and the person in the room with them were really blind to the target, "Grazing" is an amazing hit. Plus, the dream with the sphere and for stars. Not controlled but still interesting.

Proponents of FC/S2C/RPM and telepathy. If you really want to get our attention, please submit citation information to reliably controlled authorship tests. We're happy to review scientifically rigorous evidence of your claims.

“ I have a sense that most, if not all proponents understand on some level what would happen if they participated in such studies. Why else would they so aggressively avoid them?”

Proponents want to talk about metaphysical and theological issues before determining who is controlling letter selection via FC/S2C/RPM. There is nothing to debate. Reliably controlled tests to date clearly show facilitator cueing and control over letter selection.
Yeah, that makes sense considering the added layers of metaphysical and theological claims and questions involved compared to the scientific testing of claims through falsifiable methods. Perhaps w/ the right person/approach, a debate could help inform a wider audience about FC

Sending this to the principal who nearly fired me, a trainee teacher when NO ONE in their right mind would work there, when I said that learning styles are a myth.
Yet another empirical investigation concludes no validity to VAK learning styles. psycnet.apa.org/doiLanding?d…

When evidence, logic, and common sense are all allied against you, all you have left is misrepresentation, straw-man arguments, ad hominem attacks, and false accusations. And, of course, boatloads of anger and self-deception.

Your willingness to speak publicly about your experiences and about the science behind FC/S2C/RPM (or lack thereof) will pave the way for others to follow. Your perspective is valuable and much appreciated.

Thought-provoking, thank you for sharing. I will always speak up against pseudoscience regardless of social support. I believe everyone tries their best to strive for science and reality, and speaking up adds valuable public data for making informed decisions.

Thanks for this update. I haven't been able to find any evidence-based studies authored by Powell and she misquotes Bernard Rimland re: ESP as a savant skill. facilitatedcommunication.org…
The episode didn't touch the "controversy" over Facilitated Communication at all (the controversy being that it's total BS), giving us more TT-tier "testing" with parents facilitating kids to spell words the parents know. Boom, telepathy! Kripal and Powell are wowed thru out.

I experience this w/speaking out against FC/S2C/RPM as well. People are willing to say "off the record" that these techniques don't work, but are unwilling to take a public stand. They'd rather my colleagues and I take the hits on social media than stand up for what's right.
How has an online culture developed where the most vicious and vitriolic things are acceptable in public, while the supportive messages are mostly sent in private?
