When London introduced the Oyster card in 2003 under Mayor Ken Livingstone it was a complete game changer and a pioneer in Europe. No more weird lollipop bus ticket carnets. So much less paper tube tickets. Within a couple of years, automated capping meant no more planning ahead.

Sheffield is the largest city in Europe without a single electrified railway. The Midland Mainline electrification would have changed that, but the Govt has now 'paused it'. Meanwhile, £600m has been spent on a fare freeze that will mainly benefit commuters in the South East.
