New bonus episode! It's the rest of this interview with @grocery_nerd, about treating food like a public utility.
What if we said "food is a human right," AND we actually built our supply chains like it?

This is why the podcast is a week late 🤠💀
Anyway, the food system has a cliché: "There's plenty of food to go around. The problem is distribution!"
IT'S TIME TO TALK DISTRIBUTION LET'S GOOOOOO

Just got back from the coolest ag project of all time, "What if you could turn abandoned oil rigs into seaweed farms to clean up the Gulf of Mexico?"

ALT Photo of an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, taken from water level (in a small boat). Blue sky with a few puffy white clouds in the background. Rig is mostly red & safety yellow, standing on a few steel legs painted red. Most of the rig is visibly sun-bleached and/or covered in barnacles, visibly aged & somewhat out of use but still sturdy.
New bonus episode! @Woofpickler joins to talk poultry farming, money, and why the “barns full of chickens the farmers don’t own” industry is EVEN WEIRDER than everybody thinks it is.

I did a podcast with @shappy and @johnath on how the ag & tech industries have a surprising amount in common, in both their problems & solutions?
This episode is huge for all the fans of organizational pathology out there ❤️

New episode! Historian Susan Sleeper-Smith joins to talk about how Indigenous nations in the Great Lakes & Ohio Valley were agricultural powerhouses, what that looked like, & low-key what that could look like again.

Important Entertainment News: tomorrow night I'm doing a livestream of the nouveau-western 1883! With real live cowboy (and also drag cowboy) Lucy Maude! We will take the Western Mystique very seriously!
For an idea of the ambience, it'll be something like this

Podcast is @FarmToTaberPod (with @SarahTaber_bww who is definitely worth a follow if you want to spend waaay too much time on Twitter learning things. She writes books too, so between that & the pod there are ways to log off & still learn 😅)

Anyway. If you like data-driven nerd rants about the global food system and knowing enough about it that it's harder to get spooked by shitty headlines, boy does this episode have you covered!

You're probably already familiar, but Sarah Taber's on agriculture (especially how it ties into history, capitalism, society, racism, politics, etc.)? It's excellent~

Oh thank you!
For those who might want to try it out, the most recent episode is about grain; food security; and how it's way too easy for food reporting to turn into disinfo, actually making food insecurity worse.

Right!?
The regional shortages for the Middle East & North/East Africa remain EXTREMELY real, and they're from failure to ship abundant grain where people need it.
(Just released a podcast about this, for those who missed it!)

It was so funny.
"We only have 10 weeks of wheat left"
Me: "I am standing in a wheat field that will be ready to harvest in 4 weeks. How about that?"
