A lot of DEXes choose to move matching and order placement offchain, while keeping settlement onchain, as thats the compute-heavy part. But compute or execution throughput is actually not the bottleneck. Solana already offers plenty of compute to run all operations of an orderbook onchain, and its only going to grow as hardware improves. Instead, the actual bottleneck has been scheduling and latency. There are two ways to fix this, either apps adopt their own Sequencing rules (ACE), or solana enshrines them at the base layer (or maybe both)
