amidst all the hullabaloo around validator behaviour and private orderflow deals on @solana, here's why you should just use @FermiTrade.

This is incorrect for all but the most oversimplified model of what perps do. Perpetuals are de facto neither zero sum nor PVP, and absolutely democratize wealth creation, while making markets more efficient.
Consider a few examples - lets say theres a stock that people want exposure to - SPCX, OAI, TSMC, whatever. By creating long demand on perps, they will drive up the funding rate for shorts. At some point, the risk free funding rate arbitrage will drive those with access to the underlying, to buy the stock, and short it on the perps.
This creates increased demand for the underlying, and provides the company with more capital to grow - aka wealth creation. Its also not pvp - both parties are getting what they want. The first is willing to pay a funding rate premium for directional exposure to underlying they didnt previously have (i.e. democratization), whereas the second party is willing to take the other side of the trade to farm the funding rate. If the stock goes up, both parties benefit. If not, the first party still got to place a directional bet they otherwise wouldnt have.
This works in various other scenarios too. Supposing you're an employee or investor at SPCX or anthropic (espcially post IPO). It may be too much risk for you to continue holding majority of your NW in a single asset; forcing sales. However, perps offer a convienient way to hedge that exposure - allowing you to stay a voice in the company cap table for longer.
Even when perps are used primarily to short a stock, its good for market efficiency. Besides being a broader sentiment check for spot holders, it makes hedging your spot long exposure harder (as funding rates invert), driving you to sell spot assets - in favor of other, less "overpriced" opportunities (aka more efficient capital allocation).
Perpetuals thus make access to opportunities and wealth creation more global; while at the same time driving increased market efficiency, better information, and more optionality for all participants.
Jeff drank a bit too much of his own Kool-Aid in this recent Odd Lots clip. I think it's important to clear up a distinction that makes all the difference.
Democratizing access to wealth creation is NOT the same as democratizing access to speculation.
Many of us genuinely want broader participation in attractive investment opportunities. The growing wealth inequality produced by the current system is tearing at the seams of society, something I've spoken about many times.
But let's be clear: listing pre-IPO perpetual futures does absolutely nothing to democratize the wealth being created in private markets.
I've seen this misleading narrative pushed repeatedly by perp DEXs lately, and it needs to be called out.
A pre-IPO perp creates ZERO underlying wealth. It's a zero-sum contract before costs, and negative-sum after them. No capital flows to the company. No ownership changes hands. No new economic opportunity is created.
Every long has a short. There is no free lunch in simply going long something before its IPO, and funding costs can even determine the outcome more than any price moves. TRADING access is NOT INVESTING access.
In fact, in many ways pre-IPO perps are almost the antithesis of democratized access:
They create the illusion of participation in private-market wealth creation, while actually offering retail a speculative instrument whose mechanics they are often poorly equipped to understand.
The result is a playground for the FEW sophisticated traders who understand funding, oracle design, and liquidation mechanics to extract value from the MANY who don't.
To give credit where it's due, Robinhood's efforts toward sourcing actual employee shares, placing them into SPVs, and tokenizing genuine spot ownership are much closer to meaningful democratization.
That can unlock real economic value by allowing employees to exchange some of their expected upside for liquidity, while giving new investors actual economic exposure. A legitimate financial trade-off, without the funding-rate and liquidation shenanigans.
I'm strongly aligned with expanding access to investment opportunities. And I believe advances in AI and blockchain can dramatically lower the barriers to discovering, structuring, and distributing them.
But let's not BS ourselves that launching another zero-sum casino contract is moving the needle on wealth inequality.
What would actually move the needle is bringing real capital formation and ownership onchain. Giving investors access to productive, illiquid assets like data centers, GPUs, and select startup investing, where capital can actually finance growth and share in the resulting value creation.
These opportunities are harder to structure, underwrite, and bring to market, and we haven't seen many compelling implementations onchain yet.
Hopefully this will change soon and, as the industry matures, we can direct more of our energy toward actually expanding access to wealth creation.
Clip below. Was glad to see @tracyalloway push back on this framing, and to Jeff's credit, after this he does seem to walk back his original position somewhat.

perhaps you shouldn't have blackballed 99% of all software companies from cybersecurity prompts for the past year then

We’ve allocated points to 267,000 solana wallets that have faced losses due to MEV.
If you’re an active trader, check and claim any points here:

Kudos to @KyleSamani for saying the quiet part out loud.
That said, I couldn’t disagree more. If bringing NYSE level liquidity onchain is “pretty silly”, what are we even doing here?
I for one believe onchain venues will be primary venues of price discovery for major global assets within 5 years. Happy to do a prop bet.
"You have to bridge liquidity to NYSE and Nasdaq ... the notion that we're going to recreate Citadel, Jane Street, HRT-level liquidity natively on any of these chains is pretty silly."

I really like what you’re doing with bam.
At the same time, every time I see a validator coming up with a new standard, I can’t help but think of this xkcd:

A lot of DEXes choose to move matching and order placement offchain, while keeping settlement onchain, as thats the compute-heavy part.
But compute or execution throughput is actually not the bottleneck. Solana already offers plenty of compute to run all operations of an orderbook onchain, and its only going to grow as hardware improves.
Instead, the actual bottleneck has been scheduling and latency. There are two ways to fix this, either apps adopt their own Sequencing rules (ACE), or solana enshrines them at the base layer (or maybe both)

what would you need to move all sequencing on chain? I’m talking new abstractions, SVM APIs, anything

To be more specific on the conclusion:
deterministic fcfs + commitment to prior state (hashed chain included in signed transaction ack) admits only two outcomes even in byzantine setting - adherence, or slashing.

A decentralized system can be as fast as a centralized system, if transactions follow a deterministic, forward-in-time ordering or inclusion rule after inital acknowledgement.
Welcome to 2019! Chain congestion is still a problem, high throughput alternatives don’t exist yet
So i saw everyone talking about @papertrade_xyz & it looked interesting to me as they don't take any fee on losing trades & you also get rewarded in PAPER.
With high leverage trading every second matters & i am highly disappointed with papertrade execution speed.
I shorted BTC & decided to take profits few minutes later,i clicked close 3m ago & it's still showing queued.
I can accept few seconds of delay but definitely not few minutes.
what do you have to say on this @izebel_eth @blknoiz06
