A major post on FSD safety by Tesla ahead of a potential vote on 6th of October
An update on FSD Supervised in Europe
FSD is currently approved in five EU countries (NL, DK, BE, EE, LT), used by >70k customers for over 1 million km per day, and is 4.1x less likely to get into a crash compared to manual driving, measured across 100 million km on public EU roads.
Leading up to a potential EU-wide approval vote for FSD Supervised on October 6th, 2026, we have decided to open-source one of the key pieces of evidence used to support the Netherlands approval.
As a reminder, we adjusted the FSD design to be compliant with existing regulation (UN-R-171 DCAS) but requested an exemption for certain behaviors via the EU Article 39 procedure. The following dashboard is evidence of safety for those exemptions.
This exact dashboard was shared with all EU Member States in April 2026, shortly after RDW’s approval, and all data presented is from before that date.

European countries recorded 19,400 road deaths in 2025. That's around 53 deaths/day, with the vast majority of these crashes attributed to human error. These deaths are largely preventable with technology we have today.
FSD Supervised is already saving lives where it’s approved – yet in much of Europe, that safety benefit remains locked behind bureaucracy.
Even the world's best drivers like being driven
Nico Rosberg, F1 World Champion & founder of Rosberg Ventures, has been testing Cybertruck with FSD(S) around San Francisco, and says "it’s been LIFE-CHANGING!"
"My whole racing career, I was the one in control behind the wheel. But I’m now fully willing to hand over control"
@NicoRosberg @elonmusk
Here it is - the next EU FSD version
This may be an important one
We noticed a new Tesla software update 2026.39.6 on Model X Plaid (2024) in South Holland, Netherlands. View the rollout of this update here: teslascope.com/software/2026…
Italy hops on the FSD train
🇮🇹 Big news for FSD in Europe.
Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister @matteosalvinimi just had a meeting with @elonmusk and says Italy supports swift EU approval of Tesla's assisted driving, with a focus on innovation and road safety.
A major EU country is now openly backing it after Germany went public. Who's the next big country ? 👀
It could be that the other countries are waiting for the changes to be either verified by RDW or releases as a new software version? Then approvals?
Imagine if Europe approached new technology with curiosity instead of fear — seeing the opportunities first, not only the risks.
Consumers and businesses would benefit sooner. But it would also spark something bigger: creativity, ambition, a forward-looking mood. Maybe even new companies and technologies born here in Europe.
This isn’t about giving up on safety or abandoning European industry. Safety and innovation aren’t opposites — the ten countries that have already said yes are showing that.
A Europe that dares to try, dares to build, and dares to lead. A move from museum to laboratory.
I’ve followed FSD’s EU approval process closely for some years already, and the endless wait is starting to take its toll.
It’s sad to watch Europe fall further behind in autonomy — a technology that’s moving faster every month.
The new EU ADS rules hold some promise. But Waymo’s first EU robotaxis aren’t expected in Munich until late 2027, and most likely not before 2028 wider in EU.
This isn’t only about technology or consumers. Autonomy will create new business models — and Europe risks importing them instead of building them.

As it stands, there is no concrete schedule for the FSD in the EU wide yet.
It would be best just for the countries to approve it right now instead of waiting for something they can do themselves.
Elon on the Q3 call: EU-wide Tesla Assisted Driving hopefully in Q1 2027.
FSD already runs in 9 EU countries. TCMV vote may or may not come in December.

Q3 Shareholder Update → ir.tesla.com
Highlights
– FSD Supervised attach rate grew to over 75% of new vehicle deliveries in NA
– Unveiled the next-gen Roadster
– Record deliveries in Canada, Australia, Japan & Taiwan
– Tesla Semi now in volume production. Top variant can go up to 500 miles at a full 82,000 lbs while achieving efficiency of 1.7 kWh/mile – about a third of the energy a comparable diesel truck burns for the same load
– Ended the quarter with the largest backlog for our passenger vehicles in 4 years!
FSD Supervised
– 4 new approvals since Q2 (Croatia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Slovakia)
– FSD is now live in nine EU countries & used by over 100,000 customers logging more than 160 million kilometers since initial approval
Robotaxi
– Deployed Cybercab into our Austin fleet
– Hit nearly 2 million cumulative unsupervised miles, 8x growth in the quarter
– Austin service now runs 6 am to midnight, with wait times continuing to come down as we add cars & improve the orchestration algorithms
– Added Grok to Cybercab with Grok Bot & Connectors, letting you interface with your inbox, calendar, files, chats and tasks, all by voice.
Transport, office & living room in one
Robotics
– Started production of @Tesla_Optimus on our high-volume lines in Fremont.
These are the first production-quality bots we've built, proving that the current manufacturing process for Optimus is suitable for a commercial product
SI Compute
– On track for 400 MW of training compute by year end, feeding both vehicle & humanoid autonomy
– Austin Fab construction continues, equipment commissioning planned for 2027
Battery
– Battery supply is still the limiter on how fast we ramp vehicles globally, so we're expanding on every front: pack capacity in Berlin, cathode and lithium refining in Texas, LFP cells in Nevada
– Shipped the first Megapacks built entirely with our own LFP cells
– Increasing 4680 output to support ramp of Cybercab, Semi & Model Y
Energy
– Megafactory Texas is up & running, with Megapack 3 production started
– Highest-ever order rate & backlog for energy storage
Grid constraints & power availability are making Megapack the answer for SI infrastructure demand: it excels at supplying large data center loads, smooths out demand spikes, helps new projects meet grid connection rules & makes the grid itself more stable
All with less local fossil fuel generation
Supporting Infrastructure
– Added 2,100+ net new Supercharger stalls, up 14% year over year
