This Government & Governments before DO NOT care about our Veterans. Got a friend who is a veteran ? When is the last time you spoke to them ? Pick up the phone & give them a quick call. You maybe just the voice they need to hear. Just 5 minutes of your time can change a life ! Or save one ๐ซก๐ฌ๐ง

Between 1 April 1970 and 30 June 1992, 197 serving members of the Ulster Defence Regiment (UDR) were killed on active service, with a further 61 murdered after they had resigned or retired. Additionally, terrorists seriously wounded 444 serving personnel during the regiment's operational history, with many more suffering non-fatal physical or psychological injuries
"Through troubled years, they stood with pride,
With courage and honour, side by side.
Through darkest nights and days of fear,
They served the land that they held dear.
For those who fell, we bow our head,
And honour those whose blood was shed.
Their sacrifice we'll not forget,
Their memory lives among us yet."

Never confuse our love of country ๐ฌ๐ง with our confidence in those who govern it.
As we approach Remembrance Day, I find myself feeling a mixture of grief, sadness and anger.
We ask men and women to serve, to swear an oath and, if necessary, make the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
Yet those who govern us increasingly seem detached from the very people and country they are supposed to serve.
They question our willingness to fight, whilst doing little to defend the interests, values and future of our nation. Itโs grotesque.
Letโs be clear: our armed forces owe their loyalty to this country and its people, not to the politicians occupying Westminster.
Never confuse our love of country ๐ฌ๐ง with our confidence in those who govern it.
Lest we forget. ๐ฌ๐ง
Not all wounds are visible
Not all injuries are obvious
Not everyone who comes home is ever the same again
Honour the fallen
Remember those who carry a heavy burden

WW1 diaries reveal something heartbreaking: teenage soldiers in field hospitals frequently called their nurses "mum."
Terrified, in pain, and thousands of miles from home, they looked to these women seeing them as motherly figures, who offered compassion and reassurance.
In turn, nurses cared for these boys like their own sons, offering the only maternal warmth and security they would ever feel again. ๐๏ธ
We will remember them.

On this day, 6 November 1914, the South Wales Borderers stood in flooded trenches on the coast of China, dressed in Japanese smocks so their allies would stop shooting them, waiting for the night assault on a German fortress. 12 of the British did not come home. It is the only siege the British Army has ever fought under Japanese command.
Tsingtao was Germany's colony on the Shantung coast โ a naval harbour and a ring of forts the Kaiser called his Gibraltar in the East, held by Captain Alfred Meyer-Waldeck and 3,600 men. Japan, Britain's ally, demanded it in August 1914. Berlin did not reply. Lieutenant-General Kamio landed 23,000 men and 142 guns. Britain sent 1,000 Borderers and 450 men of the 36th Sikhs under Brigadier-General Barnardiston, who took their place on the Japanese left under Kamio's orders. Weeks of rain flooded their trenches. Japanese infantry could not tell their khaki from German and fired on their patrols, so the Welshmen were put into Japanese smocks.
On 31 October 100 siege guns opened. On the night of 4 November German gunners caught the Borderers digging their assault line and killed 8. On the 6th the German batteries fired their last shells, and that night the Japanese went through the third line in the dark. On the morning of the 7th Meyer-Waldeck raised white flags after 10 weeks against odds of 6 to 1.
Japanese dead: around 700. German: 199. British: 12, by the National Army Museum's count โ among them Private John Roland Sewell, killed on 6 November. 5 months later the Borderers were on the beach at Gallipoli.
A Welsh battalion in Japanese smocks, in a flooded trench on the far side of the world, waiting to storm a German fort. Nothing about it fits the war we remember. It happened, and 12 men are buried out there for it.
