Some years ago, I met a mother and daughter in Dublin. I hugged both but, as I hugged the younger woman, I felt her recoil slightly. The mother later told me her daughter was autistic and disliked most physical contact. I've never made that mistake again. Consent matters.

Toni Morrison was a unique voice, a poet in prose. equating Toni Morrison with a generic person of color is well-intentioned but like equating James Joyce with a generic Irishman or William Faulkner with a generic Mississippian man of his time---no, no, & no. great writers are masters of language & their visions transcend their identities. however, it is not wrong to suggest that the writer becomes a unique expression, of sorts, of their "people"--Joyce empowered by his Irishness, Faulkner by giving up "large" subjects & focusing on a single mythic county in Mississippi. loving a writer is always good no matter the reason or reasons.
I could not disagree more. Reading Toni Morrison absolutely floored me because I realized what rich differences PoC experience, what things they ruminate on, what hurts or brings joy that I never would have known. The voice you hear is shaped by everything.

Yeah I’m gonna go on a limb here and say even if the mom did steal diapers for her baby the baby shouldn’t be shot.
Walmart said there was no proof of theft. Walmart said they did not call the police in for shoplifting. Baby Kohen Wiley was executed...

HAHAHAHA. The Atlantic visits a Maine trailer park where residents are fighting a corporate landlord over soaring rents and brown tap water. Then it visits a nonprofit teaching women and LGBTQ people how to become welders. The author sees a trans flag at the welding school and somehow turns this into a lecture about a “professional-class insurgency” alienating working-class voters. Maine's own workforce directory describes the school as providing blue-collar job training, including instruction in workers' rights. Apparently, a welding torch becomes a symbol of professional-class elitism the moment somebody hangs a fucking trans flag nearby. Remarkable what passes for class analysis these days.

It’s weird that Bluesky has developed a reputation as a shitlib app when basically everyone over there loves people like Zohran and Abdul El-Sayed. There’s definitely a lack of dark humor and shitposting but every awful centrist is on here, not there lmao

Hysterical that people in the 2020s obsess over the Liberal Party’s 1920s posters, despite how catastrophic that decade was for the Liberal Party
This poster from the 1924 UK election has all the makings of a great meme

You are committing the sin of empathy, Allie. This is necessary to enforce immigration policy, you have to break a few eggs. Just white female tears. Have I hit all the talking points?
I’m not at liberty to share all the details, but suffice it to say that many people rejoicing over this have given a completely incorrect rendering of what occurred and why. ICE did not come to his home. This whole thing is a paperwork issue that they’re working to resolve. Samuel Sey is a good man. As you can imagine, his wife, who’s at home with their 3 babies, is devastated and also trusting the Lord to help them find a resolution quickly. Please pray for all of the Seys. Pray for wisdom and provision. Those celebrating because they don’t like something Sam said are slanderous backbiters and gossips. Pay them no mind

I think Bill Hicks was right when he said that celebrities who do commercials should be "off the artistic roll call forever" - and back then he was only talking about Jay Leno shilling for Doritos, not every modern celeb promoting the Life-Ruining App teapaw.org/Variety/status/2113656…
Shane Gillis and Danny McBride play feuding weathermen in a new four-minute Kalshi ad. “In the past year I’ve made some questionable trades on contracts for local weather, Costco hot dog prices and cricket,” McBride said in a statement. “Working with Kalshi to make this very unique ad was a great way to both make amends on some of my questionable predictions, but also get to work with Shane, and reunite with my good pal, Deep Roy.” variety.com/2026/tv/news/sha…

The only way I can describe JoJo Rabbit is “The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas but directed like a Family Guy cutaway gag”
As soon as I saw a trailer for this, I knew it'd be terrible, and reviews bear that out. Waititi can be a great director, but whimsy is his fatal flaw. In Jojo Rabbit, he decided a story about a Jewish girl hiding from the Nazis needed a wacky slapstick Hitler, played by himself.
