Been daily driving my workstation for about a month now with Linux. Using it to figure out how it fits into making animations. Less busywork and more time illustrating means more of the cartoons you know me for. That’s the goal! #DellProPrecision #DellTech #NVIDIA

I wanted my own way to publish GIFs. I know there are tons of tools out there, including GIPHY's built-in create function. So, why bother creating my own? Honestly, ownership I guess. Not in the sense of digital sovereignty or owning your data, more like having something tailored specifically to my needs. With Qwen3.8, I was able to generate most of the code required to build this custom tooling. It's not always efficient or flawless, but it allows me to create tools that fit my workflow without wading through extra features I don't need. While this approach does limit my discovery of potential new tools, I'll take the generated code. I can clean it up, and have my own local solution. Plus I can add in other platforms that let me publish via API, so it's just one upload for me! 😊 Hardware used: Dell Pro Max Tower T2 #DellProPrecision #DellTech #NVIDIA

For anyone curious about my local stack: it’s llama.cpp with Pi as the harness. I use Gemma 4 for most things, Qwen when I need to code, and Mistral Small for creative writing help (grammar, spell check, and structure sometimes).

Between all the rage bait, the "how-to" guides for things that don't need guides, and the constant pressure to optimize for scale without asking "what are we scaling?" the internet has gotten sort of... boring. Sometimes it feels good just to make something random. It doesn't need to scale, be sold, or have a message. Just stupid and fun for the sake of being stupid and fun. Here's a weird character I made just to play, mixing and matching digital tools from drawing to generation. I even ended up recreating the process on stream last week for kicks because I liked it so much. Feels good to just make fun stuff.

Incase you missed it, I was on Adobe Live last week. Drawing, generating, and just making another goofy character. Good thing there are replays! Check out the recorded live stream when you get a chance 🤓 youtube.com/live/rIEAjhW7NM8…

The new machine is officially online. Debian/GNOME is up and running smoothly with the NVIDIA card. I went with Debian for stability over the bleeding edge stuff, although I did consider trying out a distro like Ryoku. Decided to let the my creative process get wacky. For the super nerds out there who go this road, if you're setting up a newer GPU like this, be mindful of Secure Boot and old driver leftovers. One thing I ran into while setting up that required a little troubleshooting. Super smooth once I got that sorted and very happy! As a final test, I asked the local model running on it to draft my weekend status update. After a big push, it's time to take off and enjoy the autumn weather that's starting. 🍁 #DellProPrecision #DellTech #NVIDIA

Dell Pro Max Tower T2 just landed 👀 Can't wait to try running some Local LLMs and tons more on it. But first: what Linux distro should I use? 🐧 Thanks Dell! #DellProPrecision #DellTech #NVIDIA

I'll be on Adobe Live tomorrow drawing in Fresco, generating with Firefly, and cleaning up with Photoshop. Come hang out and help me make a goofy character dance! East coast, bring your lunch. West coast, start your day right! Join us at 12pm ET. youtube.com/@AdobeLiveCommun…

I don't know if it's the lack of eyebrows or the absence of a nose, but here we are! 😅 This character started as a tiny thumbnail sketch in my notebook, probably created while muted on a Teams call. A few steps later, it evolved into a fully rendered character ready for whatever is next. I've been calling the generative part of my workflow "Generative Rendering," because I feel it better describes what's happening. It doesn't feel like it's your standard Generative Art, as the process isn't just "Text-to-Image," and it's rarely the final step. Once I get a rendered asset I like, I move into Photoshop or Fresco for detailed adjustments like refining lighting, painting in subsurface scattering, and adding details like skin texture. It's one component of a much larger pipeline. My process is for this one: 1. Illustration: I first illustrate using vector brushes in Fresco. 2. Generation: I use Firefly Boards to help move the illustration across different apps and generate the initial rendered version. 3. Refinement: The character returns to Fresco and Photoshop using the PSD file to link it up for continuous detailed work. To anyone else using Generative tools in their creative workflow: I'd love to hear what you call that process! If you start referring to it as Generative Rendering with your friends and family, please let me know how that goes! 😁

Big thanks to @CarnegieMellon School of Design for inviting me last week to speak at the Design Nexus Summit. I had an incredible few days meeting the next generation of creatives and designers, sharing my thoughts on the importance of staying curious, and, most importantly, hearing directly from young creatives about the concerns they are facing today.

A lot happens before I ever hit Generate. From rough sketches and thumbnails to fully illustrated characters, it's all one big process that pulls from and builds on the previous experience. Messing around with different software, exploring tools available, and more. I've definitely fallen into this middle ground. Making art the usual way and generating art the new way. 😂 But what I lean on most is still my own creative skill, just focused in a new direction sometimes. As for this character, I know. I think I've exhausted how many times I can keep sharing him. New work coming soon!
