After nearly 16 years, Day One founder @paulmayne is setting sail for new adventures.
He built a journaling app that became a home for millions of people’s memories, and wrote more than 50,000 entries of his own along the way. We can’t thank you enough, Paul!
Php2shell is not a problem when you are hosted either in @wordpressdotcom or in @Pressable
So proud to be part of this amazing company @automattic company.
I feel so proud to be part of this amazing company.
Today the PHP project released security updates addressing two critical "PHP2Shell" vulnerabilities.
If your site is hosted on @wordpressdotcom, @WordPressVIP, @wpcloudofficial, @Pressable, @tumblr, or any Automattic infrastructure, you’re already protected.

A team deleted about 168,000 lines of comments from its codebase, and the AI coding agent working on it scored the same either way.
Roberto Aranda of OpenStation made a copy of the code with every comment stripped out. He then gave Claude Code the same two tasks on both copies, three runs each. Every run passed lint, type checks and the existing tests. A separate AI judge scored each result without being told which copy it came from.
On the small task, scores out of 19 came in at 18.3 with comments and 19.0 without. Tokens were 2.18M against 1.71M. On the bigger task, scores out of 23 were 21.7 and 22.0, with tokens at 9.06M and 9.12M.
Aranda is careful about what this shows. He calls the score differences noise and names the small task's 22 percent token saving as the one real effect. He also shows what cherry-picking does. Compare one pair of runs on the bigger task and removing comments looks 30 percent more expensive. Compare another pair and it looks 31 percent cheaper. He says three runs per branch rules out a big effect and not a small one.
My read: put a number on how small. On the bigger task the three comment-free runs used 7.01M, 9.70M and 10.64M tokens, a range of 3.63M. The difference between the two branches was 0.06M. So the thing being measured is about one sixtieth of the scatter the measurement produced. That is not a weak result. It is a result this design could not separate from noise.

Real ones know.
WordPress has had a REST API since 2016, and it's one of the reasons the platform is so ready for AI agents. Every post, page, image, and user on a WordPress site has its own endpoint, which returns clean JSON instead of HTML an agent has to dig through.
An agent can also figure the API out on its own. Request /wp-json/ and you get a list of every route on the site, including ones plugins added, and an OPTIONS request to any endpoint tells you what arguments it accepts. WordPress had this nearly a decade before anyone was talking about tool definitions for LLMs, and now it's perfectly set up to help agents engage with your content.

They’re trying to destroy the Foundation, all of .org, demanding billions in damages. People ask why I get worked up, it’s because @silverlake_news is trying to drive a knife in the heart of everything that made the web great the past 23 years.
The timeline where they win is not a world you’ll want to live in.
WHAAAAAAT?! Jurassic Park OS in #WordPress? This is absolutely crazy! What a time to be alive! @dsas you are a legend 😂 you could create a plugin for OpenStation 🫶. And of course, amazingly hosted on @SpacefastHQ
@wordpressdotcom @automattic @photomatt
I watched too much Jurassic Park to be a Mac, so I shamelessly stole @mm_tr 's idea and made an irix/fsv version of wp-admin using #openstation.
I might have been more preoccupied with whether I could, than whether I should.

Have been thinking a lot about Eric over the past few weeks and was blessed to get to know him well during my time at Automattic. We worked together closely and both took similar approaches to how we did things.
He was curious and a natural leader with really interesting and different life experience than many guys in our industry. I gravitated towards him as did many others and looked up to him both personally and professionally. I always knew it would be a fun meetup when he was on the list.
He loved what he did and pushed people to improve. In many ways he didn’t even know he was doing that. Anything he got involved with became better. He lead by example. He was the first to try new was of doing things. If something was off, he just fixed it. Despite only being around him for such a limited time, he was a deeply impactful person to me.
It is heartbreaking to see him gone so soon.
