SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026)
Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.
His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen.

I JUST GOT ASKED TO BUY SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR A CLASSROOM THAT’S ALREADY FUNDED BY TAXPAYERS.
The teacher’s wishlist included pencils, paper, tissues, and markers.
Nothing fancy. Just basic things kids need to learn.
Parents pay property taxes, sales taxes, and income taxes, then get another list asking them to reach into their pockets so the classroom can function.
And if they can’t afford to help, their kids still need those supplies.
HOW ARE WE FUNDING PUBLIC EDUCATION WITH BILLIONS OF TAX DOLLARS, YET TEACHERS STILL HAVE TO ASK PARENTS TO BUY PENCILS?
Seriously. Where is the money going?

Getting laid off and then being offered COBRA health insurance for ONLY $2,800 a month.
Because obviously, when someone loses their income, the first thing they can afford is nearly $3,000 a month just to keep their health insurance.
Make it make sense.

Schools: DO NOT send your child to school if they’re sick.
Also schools: If your child misses one more day of school, you’re probably going to jail idk.

CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME WITHOUT MAKING ME FEEL DUMB?
I make about $85,000 a year. Between what I pay and what my employer pays, around $10,500 goes into Social Security every year.
Over a 40 year career, that's $420,000.
If that same $10,500 a year had gone into an index fund averaging 7%, it would be worth about $2.1 million at retirement. Take out 4% a year and that's about $84,000 a year, and the money never runs out.
Social Security says I'll get $2,650 a month at 67. That's $31,800 a year.
$84,000 versus $31,800.
THEN WHY IS IT CALLED "WHAT YOU PAID IN"?
I'm not trying to start a fight. I genuinely want someone to show me where the rest of it goes.

Gaming is dying.
And it's because of shareholders, billionaires buying our fav companies out and corporate greed.

They say a job gives people dignity and self-respect. That’s possible. I can see that.
I didn’t see it when I worked in corporate, where grown-ass adult coworkers got reprimanded like kids, begged for permission to take time off, or clapped like seals at town hall meetings, kissing ass, all just to avoid losing their jobs.
Dignity and self-respect in full display lol

-Data centers are bot farms
-Bot farms sway elections
-Billionaires want data centers
Do the math.

People talk about restricting the vote to 25+ due to the brain not being fully developed and whatnot. I do generally agree with the idea.
But maybe we should also cut voting off at retirement age. Why should people about to die decide policy?
