Grateful that @NSF is supporting my research with Jon (@J2dubyas), Andrii (@babii_andrii), and Alex (@alexiom_). Some very cool work coming from this collaboration that we are all excited about. Don’t miss a chance to see some of it in Alex’s job market packet (and hire him plz)
Here’s an article about the NSF grant that my colleague @GarrettEdScott received to evaluate airline pricing strategies. Big things happening. Come to the Sip. olemiss.edu/news/2024/10/air…
The SEC is boasting about 10-2 vs P4.
The reality: UTK, Bama, and Mizzou (teams perceived to be peers of IU) beat GTech, FSU, and Kansas. Would you stake your life savings on those P4 teams beating North Texas? The answer is no, and it’s no for about 6-9 of the SEC’s 10 P4 wins
I'm not gonna sit here and pretend like the SEC doesn't get favoritism from the committee, it does in some ways.
BUT, if you look at the facts, Indiana is one of the teams benefiting the most from the committee. Indiana has played 1 really good team, and they lost.
Every other game has been against mediocre competition and they've struggled. I think that Indiana should get the benefit of the doubt because they just won the natty, and they are.
But if it was Indiana had an SEC patch, there were would be no end of criticism for the committee "coddling" Indiana. The double standards are crazy.
This question on my third grade nephew’s homework just about caused World War 3 in the family group chat
The 9 game conference schedule is going to hit the SEC like a freight train. And it’s just math. They previously played 128 unique games, and 64 were in conference. Now it’s 120 unique games with 72 in conference. That 60% brings them even with the Big10 and Big12.
The Ole Miss Econ department is hiring a macroeconomist this year.
Join the party. Come to the Sip.
We are hiring a monetary economist this year. This will be our 9th tenure-track hire since I took over as chair 5 years ago. While others are lamenting the challenges of higher ed, we are building and growing. Be a builder. Come to the Sip. olemiss.wd12.myworkdayjobs.c…
If you want to learn more about how airline ticket pricing works, I will be giving a public talk tomorrow at Circle and Square at 7pm for the College of Liberal Arts “Lectures on Tap” series. #ComeToTheSip
Price discrimination is so beautiful. There was never a need to justify a blueberry wheat, but now you don’t have to
Excited to see my paper with Richmond (@Rs_tallion) on the @SouthernEconJ website. Abstract can be found here with links to the paper in the follow up post.
Richmond is on the market this year. He is a macroeconomist specializing in R&D. His website is linked in the follow up.

When Americans say our best athletes don’t play soccer, the bad faith take goes to a 6’9 250 lb guy (LeBron). No. If every NFL DB played soccer for the last 20 years, they’d be the best CBs in the world. Imagine someone who can cover 4.4 speed while backpedaling in place of Ream
What is stopping Ryan Reynolds from signing our soccer team to Wrexham and having them play together for the next four years? Earning minimum pay and trudging through the gulag of the lower English tiers is an appropriate punishment for what we all just watched
