Curious about how babies learn about the links between their body and the space around them? Our new paper @SciReports looks at how and when infants start to be able to predict that an object moving towards them will touch them. A 🧵 nature.com/articles/s41598-0… @BBabyLab @UoB_SoP 1/n

While alternative explanations might be possible, these findings could indicate the existence of a developmental precursor of the ability to make predictions about tactile contact based on prior visual events that characterises peripersonal space in adults. 6/n

Having found an effect as early as 4 months, we are now looking at the impact of very early postnatal experience on the development of this ability, by investigating newborn responses in a similar task. Will present the preliminary results next month at #BCCCD24. n/n

#AcademicTwitter: I used to be a horrible scientific writer. I was paralyzed by writing anxiety & it took me FOREVER to write papers. Last year I published 14 scientific articles (8 first, 2 second, 2 senior-author) & 2 book chapters. A thread⬇️on how I became more productive:

Excited to share my first preprint, demonstrating that unattended visual motion towards the body affects somatosensory processing in 4- and 8-month-old infants, suggesting an early ability to perceive their body in relation to the external visual world! biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

I love that #vICIS2020 has focussed so much on HOW we science, not just what we find! It’s perfect for a virtual conference, where we can easily follow links etc to learn as we go 👩🏻‍💻
