It’s true! Today I’m officially launching my campaign for the Ward 4 DC Council seat! Why? It’s simple - Ward 4 families and residents asked me to do so! This campaign is about people, not “teams” “organizations” - it’s about an agenda for Ward 4 crafted by Ward 4! I’m looking forward to this race! Learn more, donate, and volunteer on my site! gorefordc.com

Will find this comical fixation on name pronunciation (which happens to be wrong if you know Hungarian!) endearing or embarrassing?

I’m grateful to have DC YIMBYS stand with me in the Nov. 3 election. The District needs more affordable housing! Thank you for your endorsement! Remember to rank me 1st on your ballot! Join me & @dcyimbys at @metrobardc tomorrow 6-8pm
Can’t say it was fun but had a good time listening to today’s Surplus and Disposition hearing. @CMWendellFelder @CMFrumin @CMZParker5 asked some excellent questions but my joy was hearing from the community members that want this project moved forward. It takes the city too long to get these done. This is time, money, and lost opportunities. Hopefully all that changes very soon….

We can and we must build more homes for all of us.

ALT We will work to stabilize DC's housing market, preserve the affordable housing we already have, and address rent nonpayment while protecting tenants. We must because DC is facing real economic challenges. But we need to create the foundation for ambitious growth. Here’s how →

ALT Legalize high-density, mixed-use buildings near Metrorail and bus stops and on publicly-owned land. Legalize small apartment buildings citywide so Washingtonians have more choices and more opportunities in more neighborhoods. End parking requirements citywide, and encourage minimal parking be built in developments near Metro stations.

#News - The DC Board of Elections tells the DC Politics Hour it is investigating social media reports of National Guard troops hanging around at least one of the city’s election “drop box” ballot sites that opened today.

The mayor has proposed a bill to finally build housing and a new library/community center in Chevy Chase. DC YIMBYs and our partners at @betterDCregion, @Ward3Vision, and @WIN_DC support this bill. Tell your CM to support the Chevy Chase Disposition Approval Act (B26-0801).

ANC 3/4G Commissioner Bruce Sherman’s wife Jane Sherman and Commissioner Liz Nagy (you better pronounce her last name right) campaigning for Wei Torti - yes, of Torti Gallas, against Commissioner Karrenthya Simmons! Wow! These folks really hate housing in their neighborhood 🙄. Go Karrenthya!!!!

Sobering @dcpolicycenter panel on housing, where industry folks say RENTAL has had only marginal impact and national lenders still see DC as a “serious red flag.” “We are sort of the last place where ppl want to do a deal,” said Kimberly Driggins of Wash. Housing Conservancy.
This is good news! Coalition partners have fought like hell to get good numbers of affordable units - now at more than 50% in an area that has virtually none. This plan has substantially changed for the better.
It may happen: The years-long fight over rebuilding the Chevy Chase Library and Rec Center and putting housing on top is now with the D.C. Council. @MayorBowser has formally transferred her public-private development proposal with 177 units of housing, 90 of them affordable.
I’m thrilled to see the mention of the Chevy Chase Civic Core. It’s been years of debate and discussion, and there is a lot of support in Chevy Chase for this project despite what the loudest voices want you to believe. Housing is an equity issue - people that need it - need it now, now 2 -5 years down the road. To delay or cancel this project is to deny someone without or insufficient housing - justice. We have to move faster on these housing projects!!! Can’t say that LOUD ENOUGH! Using public land makes the deal more affordable. And from what I hear this deal is structured with considerable affordability. Finally - it’s not a high rise. They knocked a floor off to balance community needs and concerns. Now, let’s move this over to Council and see the votes!
Interesting: In a new (legacy-building) letter to the D.C. Council, @MayorBowser says she's going to introduce bills to finalize some longstanding development projects in the city, including the Chevy Chase Civic Core, Poplar Point, Fletcher-Johnson, Georgetown Boathouse, etc.

I'm helping my wife with a grant application and these statistics for DC are alarming:
-From 2014–2018, Black women made up roughly 50% of births in DC but 90% of all pregnancy-related deaths. Meanwhile, white residents made up about 30% of births but zero deaths.
