🇨🇦 A FRIENDLY PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT TO AMERICANS TRAVELLING ABROAD. We’ve heard that some of you sew Canadian flags onto your backpacks to get a warmer welcome overseas. We understand. Canadians are generally pretty well liked around the world, and we’re flattered that you’d like to borrow a little of that maple-leaf magic. But to our friends around the world, a few tongue-in-cheek tips for spotting a counterfeit Canadian: • We won’t ask if you speak American. • We won’t speak loudly and slowly in American, assuming that will help you understand us better. • Many of us speak at least two languages. Some speak three or four or more. • We won’t look shocked when we discover your country doesn’t use dollars. • We won’t assume everyone knows who our prime minister is. • We know Europe isn’t a country. • We won’t always be wearing shorts, white socks and running shoes. • We won’t wear a baseball cap at the dinner table in a restaurant. And one final question: Has anyone, anywhere, EVER heard of a Canadian sewing an American flag onto their backpack to get treated better? We’re genuinely curious. To our American friends, if you’re going to borrow our identity, at least learn how to pronounce Saskatchewan. Thank you for your attention to this matter. 🇨🇦 ⁎ This notice has been written in both English and American for your convenience.
