I got to meet Charles Martinet one random day in Madrid. He was just walking down the street and he was surprised that I recognized and stopped him. He was super sweet and nice, it's a memory I'm very fond of. DO meet your heroes!

Lo que tiene la animación real, es que podrán pasar 100 años pero todavía recordamos con cariño a estos personajes y hasta los seguimos utilizando para memes.
La mierda que generaste con IA no la recordará ni tu puta madre el martes.
This is the version that I'm stuck with fml

The problem with using AI to "complete" a drawing vs a paint bucket tool to fill in a solid area is that AI is actually stepping into the creative process and cutting out a human.
If you look at the below example, it's not really fully Cedric's drawing anymore. If another artist drew the final image, they would probably deserve a credit. Decisions about shading, paint mediums, light sources, textures have all been made that aren't in the original drawing.
It's like you drew a storyboard and handed it off to another artist to complete the final render. That's just not the same thing as using a paint bucket tool to quickly complete the final render yourself. If you're an artist who doesn't enjoy inking and coloring then your art will have a certain unique style (which I think it does) reflective of these strengths and weaknesses. If you want to draw something more colorful, it will require you to learn more about color, practice, and grow as an artist (which is also good). But outsourcing to AI means that your work will not really be yours anymore.
The connection to Cedric the unique person created in the image of God will be lost and instead the machine will step in and make it "better". The sketch on the left contains a lifetime of practice, refinement, frustration, joys and inspiration from the creator. The image on the right has none of that.
Is it "cheating" for an illustrator to use AI to help with ink and color?
Artists use technology in all sorts of ways to make the process of creating art more efficient. Nobody bats an eye when an artist uses a paint-bucket fill instead of coloring by hand, or uses a transform tool instead of erasing and re-drawing. Such technology is now accepted as a valid time-saving tool in the artist's toolbox.
So how far do we take that?
On the left is a rough sketch I did on paper, by hand. It's 100% my original drawing, including my choice of colors. As an experiment I uploaded the sketch to ChatGPT and asked it to tighten it and color it with a soft watercolor look. The results aren't perfect but it's decent (again, this is just an experiment). It saved me a ton of time, and theoretically I can control the final result to be precisely what I want using carefully worded prompts. AI didn't "create" the illustration. It's still *my* original drawing, cleaned up and colored how *I* want it to look. I can also take it into Photoshop and "fix" certain areas if I need to. But the tedious ink-and-color was done quickly by AI.
Should this be an acceptable practice for an illustrator? Or not? Is this crossing a line? If so, why (or why not)?
I honestly have mixed feelings about this myself. Part of me is repulsed but another part of me is excited about how much more artwork I could create with this kind of time-saving technology.
I'm very curious what others think. Please leave a comment and let me know.

We’re so excited to finally share the new trailer for Moonlighter 2!
It was an absolute pleasure working with @DigitalSunGames and @11bitstudios once again.
As huge fans of the game, being able to help bring this trailer to life was a real joy.
We hope you love the final result
This is of course better than it being fully AI generated. Still, I can't help but feel bad about the 3D animators being completely taken out of the production, since the storyboard serves now as key animation too. Given that the inbetweening seems to be assisted as well, (cont)
‘Ozzy Fox’ is AI-assisted, not AI-generated.
Animaj says the series uses two proprietary AI tools, sketch-to-pose prediction and motion in between in, trained on the show’s assets.
Artists create the 3D models, storyboard the episodes, and draw the key poses, while the AI assists with parts of the animation workflow.
I get that, with the advancement of technology, some departments disappear (the multiplane camera operators that disappeared with digital animation, etc). Still, I can't help but feel bad about seeing the amount of artists in a team shrink. (Cont)
