The loss of UK IP (in this case Monzo) to international buyers would be a further signal that domestic scale up capital is scarce. My comments on CGT in today’s Times echo fears that an existing problem risks being made worse.
This is huge. Potential sale of Monzo to NuBank in the region of £8-10bn. This would be amazing for early investors, employees and crowdfunders. It would provide some MUCH needed liquidity. However it would also be another example of a great UK tech company being scooped up by a foreign giant. However, without a functioning local capital market there is no alternative.

Revenue down 21%. Earnings sharply lower. Difficult markets across several businesses. I look beyond the headline numbers to ask whether Judges Scientific's (#JDG) long-term investment thesis has actually changed. capitalledger.co.uk/judges-s…

My 71st successful takeover exit in 12 years👍 ✅Harworth #HWG ’s board recommend & back an increased £631.7m = £1.87 p/s cash offer from Peel. ✅The revised proposal, described as Peel’s best & final offer = an 8.4% increase on the 177.5p HWG bid announced earlier this month.

Judges Scientific (#JDG) H1 results are ugly. ❌️ Revenue -21% ❌️ Adjusted PBT -75% ❌️ Adjusted EPS -72% ❌️ Net debt higher And yet full-year guidance is unchanged. That makes the recovery in orders the most important number in today’s update.

Balance sheet also deserves watching. Adjusted net debt: £45.3m Gearing: 2.1x vs 1.5x at FY25 Cash conversion remains decent at 90%, and bank facilities have been extended to 2030. But I’d rather see deleveraging than aggressive M&A until earnings recover.

The 10% dividend increase is a strong signal of management confidence, but H1 cover is only 1.1x and the Board itself says that is unsustainable. My takeaway: Terrible H1. Encouraging order recovery. FY26 guidance now carries much more execution risk. I continue to hold.
