#GSoC acceptance emails will be sent this Thursday. I am excited to learn which students I'll be mentoring as part of the @FreeBSD project this summer!

Most people talk about @openclaw as an automation toy or agent runtime. I think a much more serious use case is child protection. Not as replacement for parents or an magic AI filter, just as one more safety layer hackacad.net/post/2026-04-07… Thanks @steipete #OpenClaw #ChildSafety

Does anybody have an overview over the SKU numbers for #IBM POWER9 CPUs? Want to buy a bigger one for my @RaptorEng Blackbird, but most sellers only give you the SKU number without details.

FreeBSD uses 206 MB of RAM on desktop. Its 15.0-RELEASE with #PKGBASE and @XLibreDev X11 server and @Openbox/@Tint2/@Dzen2 desktop. The htop(1) shows 230 MB but I subtracted: - 19 MB for xterm(1) - 5 MB for htop(1) 230 - 19 - 5 = 206 They were only used to measure RAM usage.
Devuan + XLibre + IceWM? Only using 200MB of RAM? I need to take that for a spin.

Il n'y a pas que le monde Linux qui est une alternative à Microsoft ou Apple. Il y a FreeBSD dans le tweet cité. L'os du demon est une alternative crédible.

EuroBSDCon & bhyvecon 2025 are over and you probably missed several awesome talks if you didn’t join! This is the most important con in EMEA for all topics around #FreeBSD, #OpenBSD, #NetBSD, etc. My highlight? #Sylve virtualization by @hyzam_js & @freebsdfndation on #bhyve

Freshports is THE PLACE if you are looking for FreeBSD ports and packages. Thank you Dan! #FreeBSD
I started running short on disk space for the non-production @FreshPorts hosts. This time, I've decided to ask for donations. dan.langille.org/2025/08/29/… Which means my Patreon account has been activated.

Thanks for the feedback! Here comes the FreeBSD edition of this how-to. Make sure you have a GPU installed and configured, otherwise it will be just SLOOOOOOOWWWWW hackacad.net/post/2025-07-15…
At FreeBSD Hackathon Berlin we discussed chatbots that actually know FreeBSD. I put together a small RAG demo that uses the latest FreeBSD docs including things latest stuff like pkgbase. hackacad.net/post/2025-07-12… based on @ollama @OpenWebUI #FreeBSD

FreeBSD 14.3-RELEASE images are starting to hit mirrors. Reminder: It's not official until a GPG-signed email goes out to the freebsd-announce mailing list. We probably won't have to pull the release at this point, but if we do it wouldn't be the first time it has happened.

ESP32 “backdoor”? Not so fast. Yes, hidden HCI commands allow deep access to memory, flash, and Bluetooth internals. BUT: ❌ Not remotely exploitable via Bluetooth ❌ Not an OTA attack ✔ Requires wired HCI access ✔ Requires high privileges on controller It’s a post-exploitation tool, not an instant game-over. If an attacker already controls the host device, you’re cooked anyway. Hype ≠ Reality.

If you work with #FreeBSD ports, you already know about portlint. I also find ports-mgmt/portfmt very useful. It reformats the Makefile for you. portfmt Makefile > Makefile.patched review mv Makefile.patched Makefile profit
